Young entrepreneurs & new concepts | Williams Farmhouse, JUNI and La Vela
Every day we spot fun, new concepts. This week, new concepts in Amsterdam, Roelofarendsveen and Rotterdam. At Williams Farmhouse in Amsterdam, guests enjoy British cuisine with of course a Sunday Roast and all the traditional side dishes. One of our team members has already enjoyed their cuisine. In March, wine and cheese shop JUNI will open in Kralingen, Rotterdam. A charming little restaurant with a small terrace where you can enjoy wine and cheeses from the area. And in Roelofarendsveen, the members’ hall of the water sports club Braassemermeer has been converted into restaurant La Vela where you can enjoy an international tapas menu.
We wish all these entrepreneurs and their teams lots of fun and success with their concepts. More information below!

WILLIAMS FARMHOUSE | Enjoying British food from the countryside
The team from Café Garçon and Brasserie Margaux also opened Williams Farmhouse on the Beethoven Street in December. Inspired by the rich heritage of the British countryside, they take you on a journey through the flavours and traditions of the ‘countryside’: rural, rustic yet chic. Of course, they serve a Sunday roast with roasted potatoes in duck fat and ‘Yorkshire Pudding’! Other dishes you can enjoy at this new address in Amsterdam include ‘Grilled Cheese Sandwich’, Crab Roll (with crab and prawns on a brioche bun with tarragon mayo), ‘Eggs Benedictine’, oysters, ‘Scotch Egg’, ‘Fish & Chips’, ‘Gravlax’, ‘Coronation Salad’, Steak Diane, Chicken Pie and many more dishes. For dessert, they have chocolate chip cookies and an ‘apple crumble’, among others. The photos of this restaurant were taken by a colleague who has already eaten here twice and enjoyed it! More details on their website, linked in the title.

JUNI in Rotterdam | A small wine and cheese bar
JUNI will open on the Oostzeedijk in Rotterdam this March. This small wine and cheese shop belongs to Puck and Nienke, two young entrepreneurs (aged 25 and 26) from Rotterdam. They have both been working in the Rotterdam hospitality industry for years and chances are they have already poured you a glass of wine at restaurant OX or the Biergarten. This is where Puck and Nienke met and discovered their passion for the hospitality industry. And after a period of living room dinners, event catering and a pop-up, it is now time for JUNI in Kralingen on the Oostzeedijk. Their restaurant will have about 25 seats and a terrace in front of the door.
JUNE is named after their favourite month of the year. In June, everything comes together: the days are longer, the sun starts to shine and nature treats the world with the most beautiful fruits and vegetables. They want to translate this atmosphere to the offerings and space: warm, inviting and in bloom.
At JUNI, guests can enjoy a wide range of wines (a combination of both conventional wines and natural wines) and cheeses, the latter sourced locally as much as possible. You can make your own selection of cheeses from their showcase, or leave the choice up to them. Besides wine and cheese, they have small seasonal bites and small dishes available every evening, such as sourdough bread from their favourite baker and always something sweet. Not too complicated, mostly very tasty. No need to make reservations, it is an approachable concept for both planned and spontaneous encounters. Open from Thursday to Sunday! On Saturday and Sunday also open for lunch, the other days from 4 to 11 pm.

LA VELA in Roelofarendsveen | Dinner with a view
La Vela is located on the beautiful premises of Watersports Association Braassemermeer, the home base for sailing enthusiasts from Roelofarendsveen and far beyond. Within the association, La Vela is known as ‘the members’ room’, a place with a rich history and a dynamic atmosphere.
Thanks to its special location, catering for major events such as the International Easter Regatta and the annual youth camp has already been regularly provided here. These are great moments to see up close how a sailing event works. In addition, the Braassemermeer and the club attract sailors from all over the Netherlands, from enthusiastic amateurs to Olympic champions who took their first steps on the water here.
Outside these events, it would be a shame to leave such beautiful premises unused. Therefore, after a major renovation, the members’ hall has been transformed into an atmospheric restaurant. The bar and kitchen were already present, but were previously used mainly for events. The water sports association was looking for a way to give this space a new lease of life and contacted Bart and Martin Hogenboom, owners of Café Hogenboom. They immediately saw the potential, but did not want to sell their café short. So they decided to bring in someone with catering experience: Fay Verdel, who had worked in several catering businesses in the village – including Café Hogenboom. Thus was born the idea for La Vela, which opened on Valentine’s Day.
They offer a tapas menu, with hot and cold dishes from various international cuisines and, of course, ingredients from the Braassemermeer lake. Plenty of choice for meat and fish lovers as well as vegetarians. Shared dining without time slots, after all, conviviality knows no time! In summer, they also serve a quick bite or just a main course on their terrace. They can cater for parties of up to 200 guests but they also have cosy and convivial spaces for smaller groups, like their Braassemcafé. We will definitely cycle there from Leiden for lunch sometime!
