Restaurant Element opens its doors in the old gas factory in Meppel
Restaurant Element by Joleen Dannenburg and Niels Noorman opened at the beginning of March and is located in the old gas factory on the Gasgracht in Meppel. In recent years, Joleen worked at restaurant Sukade in Meppel and Niels worked at restaurant de Lindenhof (**) in Giethoorn. Together, they opened their own restaurant Element in the historic building in the centre of Meppel. The gas factory is a venue where events take place and (office) spaces can be rented, with the arrival of fine dining restaurant Element there is now also a restaurant. The restaurant has space for 34 guests. The extensive kitchen that continues into the bar is an eye-catcher. Guests can also eat comfortably at the bar. No doors in the restaurant, everything is transparent. And in the toilets, (where they do have doors ), on the back wall, painter Nick Enninga has created a unique mural.
The name ‘Element’ has not been randomly chosen. It refers to the different elements that come together: the industrial history of the building, the refined dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients and the warm, cosy ambiance. Chef Niels works with the seasons and prefers to choose products from the region. He serves a three-, five- and seven-course menu with fish, meat and vegetarian options but the main role for vegetables. There is a large selection of wines that can be drunk by the glass. They also have an extensive menu of wines, carefully selected by vinologist Joleen. Sustainability is high on the agenda. The kitchen is fully electric and waste is carefully separated. In addition to the indoor space, there is a waterside terrace in summer, which adds an extra dimension to the experience. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm. Restobar Moos on the Fred in The Hague
It had long been a dream of Shimo Verbaan to open his own restaurant. He started his passion for the hospitality industry 15 years ago by founding FourParties Horeca Uitzendbureau (restaurant temp agency). Since then, FourParties has become one of the larger staffing agencies in the Netherlands nationwide, supplying staff to 200+ clients. When a hospitality business was for sale across the street from their FourParties office, there was no doubt. This was the perfect time to make his dream of having his own restaurant come true. As Restobar Moos is located across the street from the office, the team immediately had a new regular spot for their Friday office drinks. Restobar Moos, at the Frederik Hendriklaan (in slang called the Fred) 58 in The Hague, opened at the end of December 2024 after a major renovation. The building contains features from the old state, such as striking chandeliers & beautiful ornaments, but has many colourful and striking additions.
Mediterranean cuisine is served in a shared dining concept. Think extensive snack platters, beetroot tartare, Italian beef stew and a variety of desserts, such as a pistachio cannoli. Shimo’s favourites are the lamb mince skewer or the ceviche of scallops. And every Sunday is Pintxos Sunday at restobar Moos! They serve signature cocktails, carefully selected wines & beers on tap. The real wine connoisseurs can ask for their ‘wine bible’. The restobar’s slogan is: ‘Where flavours come together and moments are celebrated!’ You can also hire the restobar for private events, fully catered meetings and other festive occasions. Closed on Mondays only, check their opening hours on their website, link in the title.

Emmanuelle | ‘La vie en rose’ in the heart of Hilversum
On Friday March 21st, Emmanuelle opened its doors in Hilversum on the site of the former café Burger. Emmanuelle offers a new culinary hotspot where the seductive charm of French cinema meets classic French cuisine. Emmanuelle is the latest project of the Van Velthooven Horecagroep (VVHG), known for successful establishments such as Rex, Brasserie Meddens and Nannes.
Emmanuelle opened in the centre of Hilversum and promises to bring a totally revamped dining experience. With a nod to the French film classic, Emmanuelle aims to become a classic itself: a culinary destination as timeless and alluringly charming as the film classic ‘Emmanuelle’. The interior exudes an eclectic, flamboyant vibe. In collaboration with design team Too Many Agencies, a visual spectacle has been created that brings together classic elements and a colourful mix of prints and colours. The mysterious yet inviting ambience is enhanced by the centrally located cocktail bar, which perfectly complements the theme. Although the interior is extravagant, the menu stays true to the simplicity of classic French cuisine. From tartare de boeuf to escargots and bisque de crustacea, the dishes on the menu are an ode to tradition, without modern frills. Like a Parisian bouillon, quality and flavour are paramount. Emmanuelle’s extensive wine list, full of carefully selected French wines and champagne, completes the experience.
With its colourful terrace and prominent location on the river the Groest, Emmanuelle not only offers a great ambiance to dine, but also contributes to the vibrancy of the neighbourhood. La vie en rose in the heart of Hilversum. More details on their website, link in title.
