Every day we spot fun, new concepts. This week, three new concepts, in Scheveningen and two in our “own” city of Leiden. After successful establishments at Market 27 and Market 33, two urban food stations in Amsterdam, Granelli is now also serving its artisanal Italian dishes in the lively Foodhall Scheveningen. ‘Bij Daaf & Maan’ is a cosy coffee and lunch shop in a characteristic corner building on the Nieuwe Rijn in Leiden, where you can enjoy creative coffees, fresh tea and local sweets. And late last year, Café de Gaper opened at Rapenburg 97 in Leiden. And there they are making guests happy with delicious food, fine wines, affordable and a casual ambiance.

We wish these entrepreneurs and their teams a lot of fun and success with their concepts. More information below!

Granelli brings the taste of Italy to the Foodhall Scheveningen

After successful locations at Market 27 and Market 33, two urban food stations in Amsterdam, Granelli is now also serving its artisanal Italian dishes at the lively Foodhall Scheveningen. Granelli opens its doors on the Noordboulevard in Scheveningen, bringing a piece of Italy to our Dutch coast. From crispy pizzas to Italian meatballs with tomato sauce or a delicious Italian charcuterie board – at Granelli you will get genuine Italian cuisine, prepared with love and craftsmanship.

At Granelli, everything is about la bella cucina: pure flavours, honest ingredients and artisanal preparation. The pizzas are made with a special blend of three different types of flour, creating a light, crispy base. Think a classic Margherita with perfectly melted fior di latte or a spicy Diavoletta with spicy salami and Calabrese olives. For meat lovers, there is also polpette: well-seasoned meatballs Italian-style in fresh tomato sauce. Granelli’s arrival at Foodhall Scheveningen is an exciting new step for entrepreneurs Mauro Venturino and Gregory Pici. “All my life I dreamed of having my own restaurant. With this new location on Scheveningen beach, that dream only gets better. The Foodhall, the diverse crowd – really everything is right about this new location of Granelli!” says Mauro enthusiastically. Foodhall Scheveningen at strandweg 161 is open daily from 12:00.

Bij Daaf & Maan | Creative coffees

As of January, Leiden has a new coffee and lunch room in a characteristic building (corner building Nieuwe Rijn): Bij Daaf & Maan. The corner building has changed concepts regularly in recent years, from a shop with Portuguese food, a gyros restaurant, a clothes shop and lastly Kaffee Metzke. Now brothers Manuel and Davi Rosielle serve their creative coffees, drinks and lunch dishes using products from local bakeries, butchers and coffee roasters. With a focus on “quality over quantity”!

They serve filter coffee (Americano), espresso, lattes and cappuccinos, various matcha drinks, Madagascar and Ecuador chocolate milk and a number of teas including fresh mint and ginger. They have some lesser-known soft drinks on the menu such as Balis Cosmo, Kumasi Cocoa Gassi, Three Cents Fig Leaf Soda or Pineapple Soda, among others. They also sell cakes, apple pie, a Leidsch Triple Cookie, gingerbread white chocolate and gluten-free coconut cakes. We enjoyed a delicious latte on their small terrace! They are open from Wednesday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm, on Sundays they open at 10am.

Café de Gaper | Quality on your plate, stories in your glass

Late last year, Café de Gaper opened at Rapenburg 97 in Leiden. In the building that until then housed restaurant ‘In Den Gapende Eter’. And Leiden seems to be very happy about it! They are regularly fully booked, especially on weekends. We weren’t able to get a reservation until the end of March. And what we heard is true: delicious food, fine wines, affordable and a casual atmosphere. The young restaurateurs, Lisa de Tombe, Jim Dijksterhuis (chef) and Mello de Witte have created a cosy ambiance. Lisa and Jim know each other from restaurant The Bishop in Leiden. On their menu dishes like mackerel rilette, mushroom ragout, steak tartare (with a cream of foie gras), Sweetbreads (with pear, fenugreek and parsnip), Duck confit and a delicious vegetarian celeriac lasagna. The way they offer their cheeses is also a bit different: a number of Dutch cheeses, which you can order separately. Of course, they also have some sweets on the menu such as ‘pain perdu’ (with blackberries, brioche and cinnamon ice cream) and rhubarb (with raspberry, financier and orange). They are open from Tuesday to Thursday, from 5.30pm and Friday to Sunday from 4pm to close. Highly recommended!
