Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam celebrates its 5th anniversary
At Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, May will be a month of celebration. Five years ago, the majestic hotel opened its doors on Amsterdam’s most elegant canal: the Herengracht. For years since, it has been applauded as the top luxury hotel in Amsterdam, but also as one of the best hotels in the Netherlands – and worldwide. Set inside six Dutch Golden Age patrician’s houses, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam does not only breathe history, luxury and elegance, but also the highest quality of service. A visit to the monumental hotel is a journey in the world of taste and refinement: A simple dinner becomes a culinary experience, a night’s sleep becomes a dream.
In honour of its fifth anniversary, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam has developed an Anniversary Afternoon Tea, a glamourous Aperitivo inside Peacock Alley, Goldfinch Brasserie classics, a celebratory cocktail inside the Vault Bar and its exclusive Guerlain Spa has created a new treatment for the occasion. Additionally, an exciting Lottery Raffle has a range of extraordinary prizes to win.
Anniversary Afternoon Tea
Each season, the pâtissier Vipin Charly’s astounding new creations have made the Afternoon Tea more and more renowned. For Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam’s fifth anniversary, the Indian-born pâtissier was inspired by the hotel’s international character as well its local roots: The herbs, flowers and bees of the hotel’s private garden. Not only are his botanical creations visually stunning, they are designed to explore all the senses. In its signature carrousel, the Anniversary Afternoon Tea reveals a savoury flower of smoked salmon, beetroot, spinach and capers; a lovage meringue with a lemon geranium muhammara; delicate sandwiches; and a local smoked Remeker cheese with an aged balsamic with a cucumber relish tartlet. For the sweet tooth, we offer a ‘flower pot’ of black sesame yuzu and matcha flowers; a light lime cheesecake; lavender and honey choux; tulip bulbs created from coconut lime leaves and strawberry; hibiscus and forest fruits opera cake; vanilla and chocolate scones; as well as an intricate cake from rose yoghurt and verbena.
Aperitivo at Peacock Alley
Ever since the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam’s opening, the elegant calm of Peacock Alley has been loved by guests as an oasis away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Already locally renowned by the now-common phrase “Meet Me at The Peacock”, guests are now also able to enjoy a pre-dinner drink and bite from the Aperitivo menu.
Goldfinch Brasserie Classics
Under the leadership of chef Sidney Schutte, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam has been celebrated for its creative and innovative cuisine. Goldfinch Brasserie, named after the small bird historically known to live inside Amsterdam’s secret gardens, opened its doors four years ago. Located alongside the Two Michelin Star restaurant Spectrum, guests can enjoy a tailor-made dining experience inside the Brasserie. This May, a tribute is paid to the hotel’s most popular signature dishes and classics. Starring in this list of classics are the Toro Tuna Tartar and the Sea Bream, but also the Lamb Shoulder and the Coconut Sorbet dessert. Last but not least is the iconic Goldfinch Burger, awarded as the best burger in Amsterdam.
Spectrum
For the Two Michelin Star restaurant inside Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam, this has already been a year of celebrations. In January, the restaurant formally known as Librije’s Zusje was transformed to become Spectrum: innovative, intriguing and inviting. Under the leadership of the illustrious duo, Chef Sidney Schutte and Restaurant Manager Sascha Speckemeier, this fine-dining restaurant has already become internationally renowned due to its powerful vision on gastronomy and hospitality.
Birthday cocktail at the Vault Bar
Ever since French bartenders Meric and Benoît joined the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam Team, an old school standard has become the norm at the Vault Bar. These classically-trained bartenders strive for perfection in anything and everything, and are able to ‘read’ guests to see which drink suits their taste. For our fifth anniversary they concocted the Vault Punch Nr 5. This anniversary cocktail is based on the hotel’s most celebrated dish and drink: Spectrum’s Carabinero and Vault Bar’s Old Fashioned. With ingredients such as Zuidam Genever, Bourbon, Water Melon Liqueur, Roasted Paprika & Ginger Syrups as well as Orange, Coffee and Chocolate Bitters, this savoury cocktail really packs a punch.
‘The 80’ massage at Guerlain Spa
The World of Guerlain is a world of peace and comfort. Its Spa, with relaxing lounge and three treatment rooms, is situated by the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam’s private gardens. The ‘Guerlain know-how’ has been a coined phrase ever since its first ‘Institute de Beauté’ opened its Paris doors in 1939, and all treatments are based on the world-renowned Guerlain massage – a leading technique for over eighty years. In honour of those eighty years, the Guerlain Spa has developed the innovative ‘The 80’ massage. Suitable for both men and women, the massage is designed to boost confidence and free oneself of stress. The Guerlain Spa at Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is the only spa in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg with the honour to have been rewarded World Luxury Spa Award three years in a row.
Win an exclusive stay at the Conrad Algarve, and many more prizes
To add more excitement and joy to the celebrations, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will also be hosting a Lottery Raffle this May. Guests and visitors are invited to participate in a raffle with exclusive and extraordinary prizes. The first prize is a weekend stay at the Conrad Algarve in Portugal, another world-renowned top luxury hotel within the Hilton family.
