Innovative Material for Sustainable Building

Researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) introduce a polymer-based material with unique properties in the latest issue of the journal Nature Communications. This material allows sunlight to enter, maintains a more comfortable indoor climate without additional energy, and cleans itself like a lotus leaf. The new development could replace glass components in walls and roofs in the future. The research team has successfully tested the material with outdoor tests on the KIT campus. Slovenia celebrates their Michelin-starred restaurants

For those foodies travelling to Slovenia this summer! Slovenian gastronomy has achieved another milestone. In the Slovenian Michelin Guide 2024, the number of listed restaurants has risen to 63, an increase of four from the previous year. This places Slovenia among Europe’s gastronomic superpowers. Five new restaurants have been awarded the Bib Gourmand for their excellent value for money. Eight restaurants boast a Green Star for sustainability, making Slovenia once again the number one European country in terms of the number of Michelin Green Stars per capita. Outback Steakhouse celebrated National Onion Day with free bloomin’onions

Just a great example of how to celebrate a National Day! June 27 was National Onion Day, and Outback Steakhouse invited guests to commemorate. On June 27 – 28, guests received one free Bloomin’ Onion per table with the purchase of an adult entrée and by mentioning “National Onion Day” to their server. Moët & Chandon, along with Chef Yannick Alléno, are delighted to open the doors of an ephemeral celebration of French culture, fashion, and conviviality: Moët in Paris by Allénos. The restaurant, bar and event space in the heart of the city promises a season-long soirée brimming with refined culinary experiences staged to whimsical decor, all with a dash of iconic Parisian flair. Destined for gourmands and festive spirits, locals and tourists alike, Moët in Paris by Allénos opened June 1st, 2024 and remains open through summer. Netflix House will let you experience your favourite shows & movies in real life

Netflix House will be an experiential entertainment venue that brings some of their most beloved titles to life. Building on previous Netflix live experiences for Bridgerton, Money Heist, Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Netflix Bites, Netflix House will go one step further and create an unforgettable venue to explore your favourite Netflix stories and characters beyond the screen year-round. The SAFE (Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation) For Kids Act

Legislation S.7694A/A.8148A establishes the SAFE For Kids Act to put first-in-the-nation restrictions on addictive social media feeds for minors. These two new state laws in New York State are designed to protect under-18-year-olds from the dangers of the online world.

Starting in 2025, these new laws could force apps including TikTok and Instagram to send some children back to the earliest days of social media, before content was tailored by users’ “likes” and tech giants collected data about our interests, moods, habits and more. The Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act requires social media platforms and app stores seek parental consent before children under 18 use apps with “addictive feeds” and it will even prevent apps from sending notifications to child or teenage users between midnight and 6am. The second law, the New York Child Data Protection Act, limits the information app providers collect about their users. More details in the article linked in the title.

Copenhagen introduces CopenPay, rewarding visitors for going green

Interesting initiative for cities? Copenhagen attractions reward climate-friendly actions. All our choices have an environmental impact, so why not make conscious decisions that benefit us all and be rewarded for them? Earn rewards at Copenhagen attractions ranging from a free lunch or a cup of coffee to a kayak tour or even a free entrance to a museum. All you need to do is, for instance, bike instead of drive, help maintain the city, work in an urban garden, or pledge to sustainable behaviour. Find the attractions and see how they reward your actions below. More details in the article at Visit Copenhagen, link in the title.

Getting your meal delivered to your local pub | Takeaway.com created ‘Caf’eetjes’ in Brussels

We missed this promotion in June but who knows, maybe it will inspire a meal delivery service to work with some pubs to set up a similar promotion in other cities. On June 1, Takeaway.com launched 15 “Caf’eetjes” in Brussels: bars and cafes where it was temporarily possible to have your favourite dish delivered and eaten on the spot. The initiative thus brings together the individual strengths of café and restaurant. Moreover, the initiative aims to support the Brussels catering sector, which has been struggling for some time, by encouraging customers to stay longer in the participating cafes. More details in the link in the title.

In New York, we have also experienced going for a drink in the evening and having Pizza delivered to the bar. Seemingly normal when the bar’s kitchen is closed.

Welfare budget for employees at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station

DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station has launched a partnership with empowr, a company focused on promoting employee well-being with customized solutions. The hotel provides budgets for this purpose for both teams and individual employees. DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station is the first hotel in the Netherlands to enter into this partnership with empowr.

The partnership between DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station and empowr. is based on a shared vision regarding employee well-being. Empowr. has several wellness professionals in its ranks who support employees and enable them to have a healthier and more balanced life both at home and in the workplace. A core part of this collaboration is the well-being budget that employees receive at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station. On an anonymous basis, employees can use this budget to make expenditures for their well-being. This includes various options, such as access to fitness facilities, wellness activities, mental health services and more. Link to the hotel’s website in the title.
