Trends we spotted | Week 24

18-6-2021

At horecatrends.com or hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the other trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

With this week some news from France; the Louvre Hotels Group is working together with Decathlon and the coaching application Trainme to transform a classic hotel room into a private gym. And the Logis Hotels Group is again partner of the 108th edition of the Tour de France.

Spotted in London; 11 outdoor cinemas popping up this summer! As both restaurants and cinemas have had a tough year, it might be a great idea to work together! Spotted in Paris, 60 restaurants and Deliveroo offer the reusable containers by barePack to create zero waste delivery.

Another Spritz Bar in combination with a Pizza Parlour; Piazza by the Pier in London. Will the Spritz Bars al fresco be the hit of this summer? And Lay’s chips opened a non-existent restaurant to introduce Amsterdammers to a menu consisting of three iconic Lay’s flavoured chips with names like the fast food giants KFC, Subway and Pizza Hut.

A Pop-Up Bike Experience of WeWatt X Ovamo was held in Antwerp on the Grote Markt. It might be a great idea as a bar or coffee bar to place a few WeWatt cycling tables to encourage exercise? And Vapiano’s Germany will go #Pinsa. They will gradually eliminate the classic pizza from its menu. The dough of the Pinsa is fluffier than the conventional pizza dough and also more digestible.

Louvre Hotels Group tests its new fitness room concept ‘FIT UP’ with Decathlon and the coaching application Trainme

After having launched a new fitness room concept in China, the Innovation Center (GIC) of the Louvre Hotels Group is testing its ‘Fit Up’ certification label in France, in conjunction with Decathlon and the coaching application TrainMe. ‘Fit Up’ has been created as a certification label that can be adapted to all the group brands (like , Royal Tulip, Golden Tulip, Tulip residence, Campanile, Kyriad, Kyriad Direct, Tulip Inn, Première Class). The concept transforms a classic hotel room into a private gym. The room is equipped with two fitness elements to enhance the sports experience: a ‘FitUp Wall’ outfitted by the Decathlon brand, offering everything needed for a quality fitness session: hand weights, straps, mat, toning balls, etcetera and 8 coaching videos readily available on the room’s television, custom-made by the TrainMe fitness expert and done by certified coaches: stretching, cardio or pilates sessions to keep up the pace while practicing a physical activity adapted to your needs. They’re testing it in 10 hotels in France. Great idea for independently owned hotels to collaborate with either sport shops or sport clubs in their neighborhood?

Restaurants in Paris start delivering food in reusable containers

In Paris, Deliveroo is partnering with barePack to offer zero waste delivery, and 60 restaurants have signed up so far. How it works: customers sign up with barePack, which offers subscriptions of EUR 2 per month or EUR 19 per year. For that fee, they can keep up to five containers at any given time. When ordering through Deliveroo, they select the reusable option at checkout. After use, the square, standard-sized containers can be returned to any participating restaurant, where they’re washed and reused for another delivery.

Eleven outdoor cinemas popping up in London this summer

A list of outdoor cinemas across London this summer at the website of Secret London, link in the title. Lots of magic of films on rooftops, in parks, and even on the canals. Great idea for other cities as well – we have the pop-up terrace Café Bloesem in Amsterdam that just announced that they will be showing movies later this month. Both the restaurants and the cinemas have had a terrible season so far, it might be good thing to collaborate this summer!

Logis Hotels is again a partner of the 108th edition of the Tour de France

Thanks to the extensive network of Logis hotels throughout France, there is always a hotel close to a stage race. The independent hotel and restaurant chain in Europe is therefore an obvious partner for this world-famous cycling event, where the riders traverse the very diverse regions of France. On Saturday 26 June, the Tour starts from Brest in Brittany. The riders will finish on Sunday 18 July on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Check out their hotels on their website, link in the title.

Piazza by the Pier in London | Spritz bar and pizza

Experience pizza perfection this Summer at City Pier in London, open till September 30th. Another Spritz Bar in combination with a Pizza Parlour and also al fresco, let’s hope for a very nice summer for Northern Europe! We recently wrote about the first Spritz Bar in the Netherlands, Café Bloesem in Amsterdam! This Piazza by the Pier, link to their website in the title, has been created by Jimmy’s Pop-up. As said it’s an outdoor restaurant where you can share a post work drinks or an Italian inspired feast buffet in one of their riverside pagodas or use a 3 course meal in their al-fresco cabana, with this meal you can even hand stretch your very own wood fired pizza.

Lay’s opened a non-existing restaurant on UberEats in Amsterdam

Although we have team members living in Amsterdam, we missed this one! Lay’s Chips recently launched a guerrilla campaign setting up a non-existent restaurant in partnership with ad agency Fitzroy Amsterdam. It was only open for 2 days (the 3rd and 4th of June) but Amsterdammers were introduced to a menu consisting of three iconic Lay’s flavoured chips that bore that names of fast food giants KFC, Subway and Pizza Hut. Check out the video below, text continues below the video!

WeWatt X Ovamo | Pop-Up Experience in Antwerp

Last weekend a Pop-Up Bike Experience of WeWatt X Ovamo was held in Antwerp on the Grote Markt. During the current corona crisis, many people have learned that exercise is good for our body, thus it might be a great idea as bar or coffee bar to place a few WeWatt cycling tables. We wrote about WeWatt back in 2015 – but the urgency of exercise has of course become clearer. Advantage: your guests can also charge their mobile while cycling. Check out their website, link in the title.

Vapiano goes Pinsa

The German Vapianos are opening their doors – by mid-June, all 55 restaurants should be welcoming guests again. With a new addition to the menu. Vapiano is breaking new ground in Germany and will gradually eliminate the classic pizza from its menu. It will be replaced by the new core product Pinsa by September at the latest. The dough of the Pinsa is fluffier than the conventional pizza dough and due to the long maturing time of 72 hours also more digestible. More at the website of Food Service DE, link in the title.
