Waste pulp packaging by Bioform Technologies received an investment of $5 million

An interesting initiative by the Canadian startup, Bioform Technologies. They created a patented low-energy production process that creates packaging materials from waste pulp fibre. This new bioplastic cuts production emissions by 80 per cent. The resulting hydrogel film is resistant to water vapour and oxygen and reduces carbon emissions by 80 per cent compared to traditional plastic produced at commercial scale. Containing no fossil fuel inputs, the final products can be recycled or composted at home. More details about Bioform and the investment by Suzano Ventures (the corporate venture capital arm of Suzano, the world’s largest market pulp producer) in the article at Springwise, link in the title.

The Dutch alcoholic beverage ‘Nozem Oil’ comes with an eco-friendly cap

The festival and event industry is struggling with new laws and regulations regarding waste disposal. In particular, the regulations surrounding plastic cups and bottles require adaptability and creative solutions. In the category of shot bottles, Nozem Oil is trying to lead the way with its shot packaging. The “disgustingly delicious” shot with citrus, chili pepper and caffeine comes with a new, eco-friendly cap called the tethered cap. Bottles of Nozem Oil with this new tethered cap are expected to flow into the market in the second quarter of 2024, however, packages with old caps are still in circulation now. The new bottles will also be available at Zwarte Cross, the event for which Nozem Oil was originally created!

MR PORTER Steakhouse, Bar & Lounge opens doors to Ibiza’s first pop-up concept

Since last week, the first pop-up concept of MR PORTER Steakhouse, Bar & Lounge (Amsterdam, Barcelona, Ibiza & London) has opened in Ibiza. The concept is part of THE ENTOURAGE GROUP.

Located in an iconic location in the heart of Marina Botafoch and the Sir Joan hotel, which previously housed sister brand IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar, guests will enjoy acclaimed cuisine in a casual and upbeat atmosphere perfectly suited to Ibiza, all summer long. Dualism defines the character of MR PORTER; modest yet extravagant, intimate yet social.

We wrote an article about this pop-up in March.

HEINEKEN Netherlands acquires minority stake in hard seltzer brand STËLZ

Hard seltzer brand STËLZ is getting a solid boost thanks to a partnership with HEINEKEN Netherlands. The Amsterdam-based brewer recently took a minority stake in the company. The fast-growing STËLZ will remain independent and, with the brewer’s investment, knowledge and expertise, will be able to further penetrate the rapidly developing beyond beer category. Hard seltzer, sparkling water with a hint of fruit flavor, low in calories and 4,5% alcohol, is gaining considerable popularity, especially among people in their twenties and thirties. In addition to hard seltzers, STËLZ also produces classic cocktails and low-alcohol Hard Iced Tea.

Pizza Hut® enters the burger business in the USA with a new Cheeseburger Melt

The brand encourages burger enthusiasts to ‘Cheat On Their Cheeseburger’ with an offer for free Cheeseburger Melts & PEPSI® in the drive-thru of select burger chains across the USA. The new Cheeseburger Melt, a parmesan-crusted thin crust Melt folded and loaded with beef, applewood-smoked bacon, onions, mozzarella, and cheddar, is served with Burger Sauce on the side. The savory, cheesy, crunchy menu item ditches the bun (say goodbye to soggy bun burger deliveries) and brings together a medley of flavors for those craving a cheeseburger all wrapped into a crispy thin crust. With this handheld, Pizza Hut has cracked the code for what a cheeseburger should be: portable, crunchy, and oozing with cheese. More in their press release, link in the title.

Viral delicacy | Tanghulu

Check out the hashtag Tanghulu on Instagram, link in the title. For what we understand Tanghulu became a viral trend on TikTok. A perfect recipe for virality: visually captivating candy-coated fruit in short recipe videos. Easy to make at home, just a few ingredients and a simple dipping process. It originates from China and can be made with different kinds of fruit. Looks like a treat you can serve at a summer barbeque or on the terrace!

The Hyatt in Philadelphia has a ‘Paws and Play’ package

The Hyatt in Philadelphia offers a ‘Paws and Play’ package according to Philly Food Ladies. The package includes a pet-friendly welcome amenity, water and food bowls, a pet bed, and a $10 gift card with 10% discount at Salty Paws Rittenhouse Square, a Doggie Ice Cream Bar & Bakery. Check out their reel about this dog friendly hotel. Inspiration?

Restaurant Noor only Dutch newcomer in influential OAD restaurant rankings

Restaurant Noor in Groningen has been voted the seventh best new top restaurant in Europe by the influential Opinionated About Dining (OAD). It is also the only Dutch restaurant to appear in the ranking of 30 European ‘Top New Restaurants’. US restaurant website OAD releases several lists every year in which it ranks the world’s best modern restaurants based on the experiences of restaurant visitors. Owners and chefs Marleen and Jeroen Brouwer are pleasantly surprised by the special international award.

Unlike restaurant guides such as Michelin and Gault&Millau, US-based OAD works with public reviewers from around the world who frequently visit top modern restaurants. OAD has over 6,000 registered reviewers who submit more than 200,000 reviews annually. Each reviewer gets their own ranking, depending on the number of restaurants visited and the score of those restaurants. Check out the 2024 list in the link in the title.

Marleen and Jeroen Brouwer are mentioned in a great list with a remarkable number of new Spanish restaurants!

Earthlings Festival in Artis | Dine at Emiel van der Staak of restaurant De Nieuwe Winkel

From 15 to 23 June ARTIS is organising the Earthlings Festival for the first time. During this festival, there is plenty to do for young and old to reconnect with nature and experience how everything that lives is connected. How can we keep eating within the changing boundaries of our planet? Star chef Emile van der Staak of De Nieuwe Winkel and cooking fanatic Freddy Tratlehner of ‘De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig’ will answer this important question during a special dinner they will cook on the charming Artisplein, on 18, 19 and 20 June. Reservations can be made via the link in the title.
