Kintsugi – Perfect Imperfection at Café Visscher
Spotted in the newsletter of the newest hotspot in Leiden, Café Visscher, where you can experience the traditional Japanese ‘Kintsugi’. This is a sustainable method of not immediately discarding chipped crockery. Instead, they mend the broken ceramics with a gold-colored lacquer, which matches their logo! In Japanese philosophy, this practice enhances the beauty of an item, and thus these plates are specifically served to the most important guests. Michelin debuts a new rating system for the finest hotels in France
I am old enough to have travelled with the red bible of Michelin on my lap, searching for restaurants and hotels in France. Their qualification used to be a couple of buildings icons in either black or red. Now they introduce keys! And to make it more simple they have 1, 2 or 3 keys, like in the restaurant recommendations. Like a true fan of the ‘French way’, I checked if some of my favorite hotels are on their list, and they were! ^Marjolein
