Amaranth, super food or as they say the ‘grains of the gods’
Amaranth, one of the kind in the wake of quinoa, at the website of Fine Dining Lovers. We didn’t know the grain and research show that only 15% of the Northern Americans knows it. Amaranth is a so called “pseudo grain” rich in proteins – is becoming a popular alternative to wheat and rice. It has been cultivated for at least 8000 years and was a source of nourishment for the Maya civilisation. It is one of the best sources of vegetable protein in the world, both in terms of quantity and the quality of its proteins. In the wake of quinoa, and following centuries of oblivion, this grain has made a comeback and is all set to conquer the world.
Restaurant Taiko in the Conservatorium Hotel launched its first Japanese gin
In honor of the fifth anniversary of the Conservatorium Hotel and their Bar Tunes, chef Schilo van Coevorden and bartender Tim Hoevenagel developed a unique limited edition Japanese gin. Taiko’s Gin is based on ginger, wasabi, yuzu and sakura and has been produced in an edition of only 500 bottles. This unique gourmand gin is initially only available to taste at Tunes Bar. A recipe from Tim Hoevenagel with Taiko’s Gin:
Serve Perfect Gin & Tonic: 50 ml Taiko’s Gin | Yuzu 200ml tonic | Garnish: Fresh ginger and apple blossom. Kanpai!

The Avocado Show
In Amsterdam The Avocado Show will open early 2017, as the name suggests, the avocado will be the main ingredient in this restaurant. Initiators are chef Jamie Heije and his friends Ron Simpson and Julien Hall. The spectacular avocado bar, as they call it, will be open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night dining. They have plenty ideas for starters, Ron Simpson told the Dutch newspaper Parool: “avocado burgers, avocado ice cream, chocolate smoothies with avocado, breaded avocado fries”.
