Michelin praised restaurant LIZZ for its French cuisine with an Asian touch
The culinary institute praised the French cuisine and the use of Asian flavors, fruits, and regional products by Executive Chef Remco Kuijpers. Kuijpers said, “We are convinced of one thing: we offer quality in everything that stimulates our guests’ senses. Our restaurant is not only filling a stomach, it’s feeding souls. LIZZ is a place where we surprise and pamper our guests. The star feels like a confirmation that we are on the right track and that it is recognized by people who know about it.”
Together with maître Louis Grizeau, he makes a visit to restaurant LIZZ an unforgettable experience. Grizeau enjoys making modern and challenging wine and food combinations with Kuijpers’ flavors. The maître represents a new generation and is young at heart. Expect to see many wines from small wineries in unknown countries and regions on the menu at LIZZ.
Michelin said, “With Remco Kuijpers, LIZZ has a talented chef in-house. He adds sensitivity to the plate thanks to his excellent techniques. Spices, fruit, and subtle Asian acidity give Dutch top products an extra dimension. In the beautiful building in Gouda – a combination of character, old vaults, colourful decoration, and luxurious design – a total experience awaits, including the attentive service and surprising wine pairings!”
Relais & Châteaux Weeshuis Gouda
Restaurant LIZZ opened its doors in 2021 as part of the boutique hotel Relais & Châteaux Weeshuis Gouda (WSHS) and has since become a household name. The former monastery and orphanage in which WSHS is located dates back to 1599 and has been converted into a luxury hotel with 25 suites, Coffee & Cocktailbar COCO, the Jerusalem Chapel, the Regent Room, and restaurant LIZZ. Together with designer Judith van Mourik, entrepreneurs Lennart and Sharon van Gastel combined luxury and design with historical aspects and created a surprisingly eclectic whole. WSHS immediately joined Relais & Châteaux.
Sharon van Gastel said, “Getting a star is still a moment in time. Delivering the same high quality every day is the most difficult thing to do. We greatly appreciate Remco and Louis. Despite the staff shortages, they have been working with the same team for years, and it is really well deserved that they all received this beautiful reward.”
