The sustainable, Amsterdam-based herbal concept Hrbs has been around for more than a year now and operates in various kitchens in Amsterdam, for example in the circular Circl. Pavilion of ABN Amro, Hilton Double Tree, De Bijenkorf, The Green House, Hotel Andaz, Hotel Zoku, Hotel Arena, La Place Nijmegen and Hotel Artemis. Hrbs supplies crops and herbs in circular trays from a local herb nursery.

The Amsterdam-based herbal concept Hrbs is a service that ensures that fresh herbs and crops are always ready to be harvested in your restaurant, hotel or office. Instead of pots or small plastic containers, Hrbs chooses to grow the herbs in a large reusable herb nursery or ‘tray’. The taste is more intense when the herbs and vegetables are harvested at the last moment because this way the herbs and crops stay alive longer in this way.

The herbs need a water basin and possibly a growing light to be able to grow. That is why the herbs are placed in a specially designed piece of furniture that contains these two elements. When all the herbs have been harvested, a new, full tray is delivered by Hrbs. The soil used for the first harvest is taken to the compost heap and the empty tray is reused.

Harvesting your own herbs and the greens give more than just atmosphere

We are becoming more and more aware of the nature around us. Plants not only have the function of ‘atmosphere maker’ but are also a symbol for coming back into contact with nature and adding fresh air in the public space. Which is also one of the goals of Hrbs, besides producing food in a sustainable and circular way.
