Summer Garden | Fitz’s on the roof X Roku Gin
The seasons play a major role in the production of the Japanese Roku Gin. The solstice in June is the ultimate reason to celebrate the start of summer with their own pop-up Summer Garden. Roku Gin takes over the roof terrace of Fitz’s Bar in Amsterdam with three special seasonal cocktails until the end of July.

Roku Gin is a Japanese craft gin
Roku Gin is a Japanese craft gin distilled with six Japanese ingredients, each harvested at the height of the season. In Japan, this culinary philosophy is known as shun (pronounced shōn). For example, the sakura blossom and leaves used in the gin come from spring, the sencha and gyokuro teas from summer, the sanshō pepper from autumn, and the peel of yuzu from winter.
Roku Gin Summer Garden pops up at Fitz’s Bar
Now that the summer solstice has ushered in, sencha and gyokuro teas are in the spotlight. Especially for this season, Roku Gin developed three refreshing tea cocktails together with brand ambassador Laura Brady and bar manager of Fitz’s Bar Nick Vrielink. After coffee cocktails took the world by storm, it is now the turn of tea as a premium cocktail ingredient, which also fits better with spring and summer. The Sencha Cold Brew, Gyokuro Highball, and Chai Highball are available exclusively at the Roku Gin Summer Garden on the rooftop of Fitz’s Bar. As an extra, they serve Japanese shaved ice per two cocktails: kakigōri, topped with condensed milk and syrup. Kakigōri is nice and light and the perfect companion for the fresh cocktails. The summer solstice was also celebrated in Austria, Switzerland and Belgium.
Great idea serving Japanese shaved ice with cocktails – we recently also wrote about strawberry infused rosé sorbet served with a glass of Whispering Angel rosé!
Six is the magic number
Roku means ‘six’ in Japanese and stands for the six special botanical ingredients in the gin, which is made by the best Japanese craftsmen. The production process originated from age-old traditions with great attention to the smallest details. Roku Gin has developed its own multiple distillation process that brings out the special properties of each ingredient perfectly. The blossom and green teas provide a floral and sweet aroma on the nose, while the palate is multi-layered. For example, a traditional gin flavor forms the basis, after which the characteristic Japanese ingredients such as yuzu emerge. The fresh and slightly spicy aftertaste is caused by the sanshō pepper.
In addition to Fitz’s Bar, the seasonal cocktails are also available at De Japanner (IJburg), Yuzu Dining Bar and Fuku Ramen in Amsterdam.
