Strand22 in Almere
Almere City Centre has a special new address, Strand22 has recently opened on Esplanade 14. The beach at the Esplanade will open on March 9. At Strand22, guests can already enjoy a delicious drink or dinner with a phenomenal view from inside. Now that the weather is getting better and with plenty of sun forecasted in the coming days, the large terrace is also open. This spring and summer it is the ideal place for an evening of cocktails or a night out.
Almere is a city in the Dutch province Flevoland. It is a drive of approximately 30 minutes from Amsterdam. The city is surrounded by waters such as Gooimeer, IJmeer and Markermeer. A perfect place for a city beach.

Day at the beach in the city
The beach on the banks of the Weerwater is part of the greening of the Esplanade. People from Almere, but also visitors of the city, will soon be able to enjoy the beach feeling here all day long. They can swim there but also participate in other sports and activities, both on land and on the water. There will also be benches and picnic tables. In between you can have lunch, drinks or dinner at Strand22. Food can also be picked up there or a package with delicious ingredients can be ordered for one of the barbecues that are placed on the beach.
On the menu at Strand22
There is something to enjoy for everyone on the menu. You can choose from delicious rolls and sandwiches, ‘real’ and veggie burgers, salads, poké bowls, various cold and warm starters or small side dishes and also an extensive menu of main courses with fish, meat or vegetarian options and tasty desserts. You can enjoy a variety of wines, beers, well-known but also unknown cocktails and mocktails and of course other non-alcoholic options and soft drinks.
Enterprising residents of Almere support the Strand22 concept
Strand22 is an initiative of entrepreneurial duo Martin and Marina Ort and Casper de Rooi. Martin and Marina have both been Almere residents for a long time and they are familiar faces in enterprising Almere. Marina ran a supermarket for years and the Bruna in Almere Center for over 15 years now. Martin is director of the Almere City Center Business Association (OVSA). They are happy to dedicate themselves to their city and have been thinking about setting up their own catering facility for some time. Martin: “The Esplanade is part of the inner city, but it was a bit of a neglected area. When the municipality indicated that it wanted to refurbish the area in the run-up to Floriade Expo 2022, we decided to take the plunge”. The municipality was enthusiastic and the plans could be developed. Casper, who has experience in the hospitality industry, and Marina will run Strand22 together.
Appearance
Almere Centrum is known for its modern architecture. Martin, Marina and Casper wanted their beach bar to match this in a nice contrast. They visited several examples on other Dutch (urban) beaches, and eventually came up with the idea of a shed. It was built and transformed from the inside into a hip, but cozy place where you can also sit comfortably in the winter months.
Marina: “The plans for the Esplanade give Almere Centrum a wonderful boost. Now that the work is slowly but surely being completed, the results of these plans are really visible. The city beach will soon be the icing on the cake. We are extremely proud and delighted to be one of the first newcomers to this hot-spot and hope to welcome many enthusiastic guests.”
