The new Intercontinental hotel has opened its doors in midtown Manhattan, NY, and claims to be the largest construction project in Manhattan since 2002. This 607-room hotel has received the “LEED green building” certificate for environmental friendliness.

Permanent fanwalk in Cape Town

During this World Cup, a string (of 2,6 km) of Dutch fans walked from downtown Capetown to the Green Point Stadium; a “Fanwalk”. Now people can vote to make this area an official pedestrian area on match days. Cooltown Studios read the following message on an African news website: :“If the roads are closed from the station to the stadium circle every Sunday, it would be a great tourism venue and also a new Cape Town activity. It will add value, bring life to the city on weekends and create new opportunities.”

Crowdsourced ice cream

Ice cream parlor Giapo in Auckland, New Zealand makes ice cream of locally  and organically grown fruit. In exchange, the growers are paid out in…ice cream! The fruit is randomly tested to see if the fruit doesn’t contain any pesticides. The ice cream parlor creates surprising flavors like Chocolate Chili and Spirulina (a type of algae).
