A historical name
The name Matelief may ring a bell among history buffs. Maria Matelief – after her marriage Maria Musch – was born in Rotterdam in the late 1500s. As a widow of a herring merchant with seven children, she managed to hold her own in the male-dominated shipping world.
Fish dishes with a view
Thanks to the extensive drinks and dinner menu, there is something for everyone at Matelief. The menu includes quality fish dishes, such as roasted halibut with ratatouille and a whole dorado from the grill. For meat lovers, the menu includes a tender beef ribeye with chimichurri and a guinea fowl fillet with gnocchi. Prefer no fish or meat? Even then there is ample choice, such as grilled pumpkin with candied onion cream or jackfruit shoarma.
Restaurant Matelief has a sunny terrace on the Old Harbour
With a sunny south-facing terrace, Matelief is a great place to be this summer. Located directly on the waterfront and with spectacular views, it is the ideal place to hang out on the terrace for an afternoon. But even when the weather is less clement, the new restaurant will not disappoint. The brand new interior is characterized by warm colors, comfortable seating areas and the light wood of the bar. Thanks to cleverly concealed and innovative LED lighting, the overall look is modern and welcoming.
