Opening – In the historic centre of Amsterdam, on the Reguliersdwarsstraat, Italian restaurant Demetra is opening its doors on August 22nd. With a menu full of fresh and homemade Italian dishes, Demetra is a very welcome variety in the neighbourhood’s current culinary offerings. Although they serve classics, chef Andrea Impiccini likes to play with surprising flavours and modern techniques. Demetra is named after the goddess of grain, and you can taste it.

Restaurant Demetra | On the menu

In a little cove of the Reguliersdwarsstraat you will find a new cosy Italian restaurant. On the menu: homemade, fresh dishes with modern flavours. Think burrata with roasted vegetables and spicy honey or seared octopus with cannellini puree, stracciatella, caramelised onions and lemon. Primi dishes include tagliolini of roasted wheat with spicy tomato sauce, or gnocchi with yellow tomato sauce, stracciatella and crispy guanciale on the menu. But of course, pizza is not to be missed either. These are baked in the impressive Moretti electric brick oven with fresh dough. Chef Andrea Impiccini uses the biga method for this. The dough ferments twice, making the pizza more digestible and fuller in flavour. Besides classics like the margherita and salami, Impiccini also serves pizzas with, for example, buffalo mozzarella, Italian sausage, mushrooms and caramelised onions, or with San Marzano tomatoes, roasted aubergine, smoked provola di agerola, black pepper and fresh basil.

Italian cucina & cocktails with an Italian twist

Demetra was founded by Italians Serena Romano, Aldo De Dominicis Rotondi and the aforementioned Impiccini. All three have a history in the hospitality industry. When Impiccini heard that his former employers were quitting in the Reguliersdwarsstraat, he immediately called his entrepreneur friends Serena Romano and Aldo De Dominicis Rotondi. Together they are opening restaurant Demetra, where they want to establish the atmosphere of an Italian cucina. With the smells and sounds from the open kitchen, home-made high-quality dishes, cocktails with an Italian twist and Italian wines. The ingredients are all sourced from Italy and handcrafted in Amsterdam into sophisticated, modern dishes.

Approachable and eclectic

Demetra’s interior is intimate, with lots of wood, Italian tiles, a new bar, natural colours and a green moss wall. There is room for around 40 guests looking for an approachable establishment where they can be sure of good food. Ideal for couples, both local residents and the many tourists who visit our capital. This eclectic mix is creating a cosy and lively ambiance, making Demetra a culinary refuge among all the neon and fast food of the Rembrandtplein neighbourhood.

Demetra is open for dinner from Thursday to Monday. Later, they will also open their doors for lunch. Check out their website for more information.
