From November 1st to the 30th 2024, restaurant chain ‘De Beren’ raises funds for KiKa (Stichting Kinderen Kankervrij, Children Cancer free foundation) with a new campaign: The KiKa Burger. For every KiKa Burger sold, De Beren will donate €5 to KiKa

KiKa has had one goal in mind since 2002: to cure every child with cancer. For every KiKa Burger sold during the month of November, De Beren will donate €5 to KiKa to help children to fight cancer. Individual donations can also be made via the website. De Beren highlights, ‘Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a big difference. Research into cancer is unfortunately still very much needed, so we like to draw extra attention to that.’

A burger with a purpose

The KiKa Burger is not an average burger found on menus. It is a burger with a story, designed by children who themselves have had to deal with cancer. With a creative eye, these children came up with the KiKa Burger: a soft brioche bun with two juicy beef burgers, fresh little gem, the famous Berenburger sauce and, as a surprise, a topping of crunchy Bugles. The burger is available for €16.50 at all restaurant locations of De Beren. For every burger sold, De Beren will donate €5 to KiKa to contribute to research and treatments that increase the survival rates for children with cancer. Individual donations from guests are also welcome, to be submitted via the donation page on the website.

Danique’s story

One of the children who contributed to the creation of the KiKa Burger is 8-year-old Danique, who herself has been cured of leukaemia. In her own words, she shares her story: ‘I am Danique and 8 years old. When I was 2, I got leukaemia, but on October 16th 2020, I was allowed to ring the bell and was cured. Now I have been clean for 4 years! I love singing, cycling, make-up and doing my hair. I don’t know exactly what I want to be later yet, but I definitely want to be a mother. I don’t have a real plan yet, but luckily I have some time to do that.’ Each child has a story, curious about the stories of the other children? You can read them on the website.

We wrote about the restaurant chain De Beren before, like for example when they opened their first restaurant in a hotel.
