Hotel Residence Inn by Marriott The Hague recently launched a special collection bin for deposit packaging in its lobby. The hotel, falling under Hotel management company International Hotel Capital Partners (IHCP), has collected more than 500 plastic bottles and cans. The deposit collected will be donated by the hotel to the Plastic Soup Foundation.

In doing so, the hotel kills two birds with one stone. Guests no longer have to keep empty bottles or cans in their rooms, which is often considered unpleasant, and the hotel prevents these containers from ending up in the trash.

‘’It has a visible effect in our lobby and in front of the door too,‘’ says Remco van der Jagt, general manager of the Residence Inn. ‘’Before, empty drink containers were often put on the counter, in the lobby or even on the ground next to the front door. Now it’s neatly thrown into the collection bin.‘’

The Hague’s Hotel Consultation

Residence Inn The Hague is undertaking this initiative as part of 26 hotels of the Haags Hotel Overleg, which together launched this sustainable initiative. It is the first time in the Netherlands that a group of hotels collect disposable packaging with a deposit together. The choice of the Plastic Soup Foundation as charity was a logical one for the hotels from ‘that beautiful city behind the dunes’.
