Reopening – On August 20th, The College Hotel on the Roelof Hartstraat in Amsterdam reopened its Bar & Bistro after an intensive renovation. Designer Piet Boon gave The College Hotel Bar & Bistro (as well as the rest of the hotel) a handsome new look and the kitchen has also been redesigned. Diners are welcome from morning till late at night – from coffee to cocktails and high tea to main course. And all with French elegance and a touch of Caribbean island vibes.

‘Back to school’ with a brand new menu and interior

In Amsterdam’s Museum Quarter, in the beautiful 19th-century school building of The College Hotel, the all-new Bar & Bistro opens its doors. For the menu, Chef Ingmar Ipema (also known from restaurant Mondi) combined accessible French classics with his characteristic Caribbean touch, while Studio Piet Boon gave the entire building a new contemporary interior with a nod to the school’s past.

The College Hotel Bar & Bistro | From Paris to Puerto Rico

For the new bistro, chef Ingmar Ipema brought together French and Caribbean cuisine in an accessible but surprising all-day menu. Hotel guest or not, everyone is welcome to sit down. And you can do so from early in the morning until late at night. The day starts early at The College Hotel Bar & Bistro with an omelette of your choice or tropical pancakes with passion fruit.

Special occasion? Tea Cultures’ revamped high tea with two courses of (savoury and sweet) delicacies, a glass of bubbly and tea pairing is the perfect way to celebrate a baby shower, birthday or day out. Later in the day, plates like lobster rolls, truffle pasta, fillet of plaice with a spicy beurre blanc, and steak tartare with salsa huancaina is served. Every Sunday, the dishes are accompanied by live jazz, inside or, weather permitting, on the terrace. And in the evening, a cocktail, oyster or late dessert at the bar keeps the party going for a long time.

Head chef Ingmar Ipema: “The reopening of our Bar & Bistro marks an exciting fusion of French and Caribbean cuisines, where both traditions inspire and enhance each other for an unforgettable culinary experience.”

Design by Studio Piet Boon

Studio Piet Boon designed a large-scale restyling of the hotel and its bistro. The vision: to bring back the history of the building without sacrificing contemporary luxury. For the old school building, this means that the light, modern interior features playful elements from the past. A subtle handwritten text in the carpet, a chalkboard with room numbers or game of ‘butter-cheese-and-eggs’ scratched into the table. Thankfully, no more hard wooden school desks, but light, luxurious armchairs in which to easily spend a long evening. Prefer to sit outside? The terrace is an almost un-Amsterdam oasis of calm with tables and lounge chairs scattered across the sunny square surrounded by tall cypresses and ancient olive trees.

The College Hotel Bar & Bistro is open every day from early coffee to late cocktails at Roelof Hartstraat 1 in Amsterdam. For more information, visit their website.
