Reigers’ Rooie | Amsterdam’s first spicy vodka.
Reigers’ Rooie is Amsterdam’s first spicy vodka. Rooie is a small-batch and handcrafted ginger vodka created in the heart of Amsterdam. The spicy bite of ginger and a hint of orange gives the vodka a strong and refreshing taste. A Reiger is a heron in Dutch and over the years, the heron has become an important part of Amsterdam’s city image.
Spice up your vodka with Reigers’ Rooie.
Reigers’ Rooie is created by four students and this start-up has the vodka locally distilled at Wynand Fockink, a liqueur distillery founded in 1679. They celebrated the birth of their new brand at Café Flamingo in Amsterdam, they served the vodka pure but also in three different long drinks. The name Reigers is both a dedication to the charms of Amsterdam and to the heron’s survival spirit. With Reigers they aim to contribute to Amsterdam’s drinking culture by making a genuine vodka. The working ethos at Reigers’ is very similar to that of the heron: survival of the fittest by keeping it simple and honest. Living in a big city is all about survival: if you are not the best someone else will win. Herons have played the game of survival incredibly well. As a result, they are the example of an animal species that has been able to adopt perfectly to Amsterdam’s city life.
The founders of Reigers are four born Amsterdammers, who, just like the heron, love Amsterdam for what it has to offer. However, all four of them were fed up with the majority of mix-drinks Amsterdam provides, which are usually overly sweet. Therefore, they created a ginger vodka that already has enough taste by itself. Rooie is tasty and drinkable without any unnecessary sweeteners. You can order a bottle here and Reigers’ Rooie will be available at different liquor stores in Amsterdam soon.
