A real Belgian beer lover? The largest beer bar in the world will be opened in September in Leuven, Belgium. Beer bar ‘The Capital’ will get an assortment of 2,500 Belgian beers and they will also serve foreign beers. Beer lovers will be thrilled by the glass floor through which the guests can admire the large beer stock. ‘The Capital’ exceeds the Delirium Café in Brussels with a range of 2,400 Belgian beers.

Our colleague Guido Verschoor spotted chocolate shop ‘Pierre Ledent’. Pierre Ledent is a multi award winning Belgian Master Chocolatier. His praline and almond biscuit creations are available in multiple locations around the world. His store located in Brussels has a luxurious look. The range consist of many variants of pralines and almond biscuits. The shop and the salon have a very luxurious look. In the salon you can enjoy desserts, verrines, ice creams and drinks. The dishes served look amazing! The almond biscuits are available in special varieties, like mojito, balsamic vinegar, olive and violet. The website is a source of inspiration and when we go to Brussels, we will definitely visit this shop!

Suspended fries at friturist

Following the ‘Caffe Sospeso’ and the ‘Suspended Coffee’ we now spotted the ‘Suspended Fries’. Owner Eric Duhamel, of the snackbar Bompa in Brussels, is the initiator. His customers can buy one portion of fries for the price of two! They can leave the voucher they receive for social workers in the neighborhood or give them away to Brussels’ homeless people. The first week the friturists sold sixty portions ‘Suspended fries’ and thirty were claimed. There are several frituristen in Belgium who will follow the initiative (a Friturist is an owner of a snackbar in Belgium).

We Are Scientists band contest at Aloft Hotels

Aloft Hotels & We Are Scientists have joined forces to present the ultimate musical challenge for unsigned bands. After sending in a demo your band can be invited to play a gig at Aloft Hotels in London, Brussels or Abu Dhabi. ‘We Are Scientists’ will watch the highlights from the gigs and choose one band to join them at the Aloft Sessions in London. They’ll help that band write and record a track in a pop-up studio within 12 hours. It’s all streamed live and direct for the world to see on Facebook. The winning band, plays their new track live at The Aloft Hotel, London.

LYFE organic fast-food

LYFE Kitchen is an organic fast-food alternative with great ambitions. The founders of LYFE, an acronym for ‘love your food everyday’, are former McDonald’s employees and want to open hundreds of restaurants in the next five years. McDonald’s former chief operating officer Mike Roberts and former chief of communications officer Mike Donahue opened a prototype restaurant on Hamilton Avenue in Palo Alto. They improve the cooking process and the logistics to save every second possible. When customers order they receive a coaster with a RFID tag. By this tag a runner can locate the table with the order. The restaurant offers organic brussel sprouts as alternative for french fries. Watch the video for about the kitchen of LYFE.

Pop-up designrestaurant The Cube

The Cube, the pop-up restaurant of Electrolux offers a combination of design, star cuisine and special locations. The pop-up restaurant will serve its first meal in Brussels from March 25 to July 3 on top of the Arc de Triomph in Jubelpark. The restaurant, provided by the Belgian chefs Bart de Pooter or Sang-Hoon Degeimbre, has one large dining table that can accommodate only 18 guests. After Brussels  the restaurant will  go to Italy, Russia, Switzerland and Sweden.  

Chocolate by Oud Sluis

The famous chocolate bars that guests recieve on departure from restaurant Oud Sluis, 3 Michelinstars, in the Netherlands,  are now also available at The Chocolate Line in Brussels. Chef Sergio Herman and chocolatier Dominique Persoone have developed a number of new chocolate bars. 

Meeting in the Thalys

Business travelers of the Thalys train can soon use private spaces for meetings. The concept is called “Le Salon” and can be boked from November 5th. With four comfortable chairs around a conference table, a WiFi network, opportunities for catering, it is a complete workspace. The price for ‘Le Salon’varies per trip, Amsterdam-Brussels for example, costs €444,=.
