Van Vollenhoven’s beer brewery ‘De Gekroonde Valk’ used to be the biggest brewery in the Netherlands. Last month, Van Vollenhoven’s’ successor opened in Amsterdam: brewery and tasting room Poesiat & Kater. The traditional and historic beers from Van Vollenhoven will be served here as well as a selection of Poesiat & Kater’s own developed beers. The food on the menu is tailored to the beers which makes it an interesting place for those who love beer and food-combinations, a small ‘Beer&Bite’ tasting is also a fun option.
Kill it, Eat it | Kill your meal before you can eat it

This month Bompas & Parr and the Mondrian London Botique Hotel will host the ‘Kill it, Eat it’ event, an experiential dining event that educates people about the much-overlooked path that food takes to their plate. During the event you’ll have to kill your own crab before you can eat it.

While most the tourism videos draw attention to beautiful beaches, impressive views and warm weather, Tourism Board Visit Mexico went for an outside-the-box- approach. In order to attract more German tourists to Mexico, Visit Mexico and ad agency Lapiz designed a tequila cloud, a cloud that rains tequila. For some of the tequila lovers, their dream came true.

vandeStreek beer brewed the first alcohol-free IPA in the Netherlands. Nowadays, a lot of people love to drink alcohol-free beer (last year we consumed a whopping 18% more of alcohol-free beer in the Netherlands), but a real good and tasty alcohol-free IPA we haven’t seen yet. From now onwards, you can drink an alcohol-free IPA and drive or go the gym. The brewery is working at their Playground beer series and the IPA is one of them. It’s a limited edition, once the beer gets successful more will be brewed.
Bad Larry’s | Cold Hard Coffee

Bikkelsauce | Remia introduces new way of eating fries

Last week Remia introduced their new ‘Bikkelsauce’ and to celebrate this, they introduced a new phenomenon: the ‘Bikkeltable’. On this special, custom-made, foil-wrapped table guests can enjoy a big portion of fries with sauce. The first ever ‘bikkeltable’ was introduced last Friday at Lunchroom Kruimeltje in the Dutch city Krimpen a/d IJssel, the city where the recipe of the Bikkelsauce was born.
4D-cinemas | Watching movies will become more exciting

Recently two 4D-cinemas opened in France and Norway. Watching movies at these cinemas will become even more exciting. During the movie, physical effects will be synchronized with the movie. In the Netherlands we currently have two small 4D-cinemas. There’s one at amusement park the ‘Efteling’ and chances are you’ve watched a 4D-movie in ‘Dolfinarium’ (Europe’s largest marine mammal park).

The Cheese Bar in Camden, London celebrates and promotes the best of British cheese by making irresistible grilled cheese sandwiches. After a successful crowdfunding campaign (reaching the funding target of £130,000 in 5 days), Mathew Carver has opened his first permanent restaurant located in the historic Camden Market on the 23rd of March. Mathew has been selling his sandwiches from The Cheese Truck (a converted 1970’s ice cream van) named ‘Alfie’ since 2014. From foodtruck to a real restaurant.
Wiedewietsaus | Biologic cannabis sauce

The Ter Marsch & Co pop-up burger bar in Amsterdam exists one year, time to celebrate! To do so, a special burger and fries sauce called ‘Wiedewietsaus’ has been developed. The biologic cannabis-infused mayonnaise is an ode to the Dutch and Amsterdam weed culture. The Wiedewietsaus is served in three hospitality businesses of the Ter Marsch family. This April Fools’ Day joke was so successful that they will be selling the Wiedewietsauce as from the end of this month.
Cake bars | Cake that looks like a frozen popsicle

By reading the article my thoughts took me back to the theory of cooking I had at the hotel school. Every week we got to see the serie Kitchen Chemistry by Heston Blumenthal. One of the episodes was entirely devoted to chocolate. How it is made and why it melts more quickly when it is not tempered? All these questions were answered in the episode about chocolate.
