Every year the Ghent Marriott Hotel in Belgium participates in the global Earth Hour. Last Saturday 29 March they dimmed the lights again during Earth Hour for an intimate free concert from a jazz guitar player and a jazz singer of the conservatory in Ghent. The Ritz-Carlton is the first five-star hotel at Aruba. Next to the 320 rooms and 450 local jobs the hotel brings education to the island as well. Together with maritime biologist Dr. Richard Murphy from the Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society, the hotel developed an innovative environmental curriculum for primary school students. The education modules will be available on the Green Aruba website to learn about the island’s unique environmental assets and how to protect them. The youth is introduced to the ‘Ritz-Calton Succeed Through Service Program’ to enhance their leadership qualities. Though these and other collaborations Prime Minister Mike Eman and Bill Marriott agreed to a long-standing commitment to enriching education on the island and a Green Aruba.
An increasing number of holidays are celebrated in the Netherlands, as well as Thanksgiving. Restaurant Midtown Grill, the steakhouse of Marriott Amsterdam, will introduce the ‘Turkey to Go’ concept on November 26 to get people acquainted with the American tradition to the Dutch. The restaurant will offer different to-go turkey packages, so people can eat a traditional Thanksgiving dish at home. The packages contain matching wines. It’s a good solution for those who don’t have time to cook or can’t prepare a juicy turkey. During Thanksgiving the restaurant also offers a special Thanksgiving menu for those who prefer to eat out.

A real fashionista and love to eat? Visit the lounge bar ‘Sorel’s Midtown Bar & Lounge’ at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel on Saturday, July 6th and Sunday, July 7th. The lounge bar is fully dedicated to fashion during the ‘downtown’ program of the Fashion week, where fashion and food are the main ingredients of the lounge bar. Five conceptual dress silhouettes made from organic vegetables and fruit juices will be exhibit in the lounge bar. These dresses, also known as ‘eat patterns’ are made by the ‘Culinaire Werkplaats‘ with the aim to set people thinking about sustainability and the roll of the fashion world. The lounge bar also offers a stylish menu of fresh dishes and snacks.
On June 16 it is Father’s Day again. The steakhouse ‘Midtown Grill’ of the Marriott Hotel in Amsterdam organizes a nice photo shoot. Fathers with sons can take a picture in cooking clothes, surrounded by cooking utensils in the kitchen of Midtown Grill. They will pose with the famous dish of the restaurant, the sea salt grilled T-bone steak of 3.5 pounds. After the shoot they can eat the dish together.

The international hotel chain Marriott launched a game for Facebook. You become the General Manager of your own hotel. With this game, which is similar to games such as FarmVille and CityVille, you earn points when your guests are satisfied, but you lose points when your guests leave your hotel unhappy. With this game, Marriott tries to increase interest in careers with the group and in hospitality in general.
After ShopMarriott, HiltontoHome, W Store, and Hyatt at Home now Swiss Hotel intriduces an online store. In the shop all the items used in the hotel can be bought, from bedding to candles and bathrobes.
