Trends we spotted | Week 50

At hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, amongst others, a link to an article about Sandi, the enormous Christmas tree made of sand in West Palm Beach and one of the best restaurants in Athens, Funky Gourmet, will open a second location at the Hilton Athens. Hotel 3232 in New York created a sushi bar in one of the hotel rooms at the 10^th floor. Koppert Cress launches Sweet Peeper!

Koppert Cress recently introduced  their Sweet Peeper cress! Koppert Cress specializes in cresses; seedlings of unique plants, which each have their own specific effect on the senses. Flavour, fragrance, feel or presentation, there is a cress for all. And the assortment is widening. Every year at least one new item is added to their collection of Micro-vegetables. A collection, which is presented as ‘Architecture Aromatique’. Sweet Peeper is the latest addition and we’re curious for this cress from sweet potato! Underneath the article you will find a video in which chef Edwin van den Heykant from Bowery restaurant at the Hilton Schiphol, creates a couple of dishes with the Sweet Peeper cress.   read more

The Amsterdam-based herbal concept Hrbs | Always harvest fresh herbs yourself

The sustainable, Amsterdam-based herbal concept Hrbs has been around for more than a year now and operates in various kitchens in Amsterdam, for example in the circular Circl. Pavilion of ABN Amro, Hilton Double Tree, De Bijenkorf, The Green House, Hotel Andaz, Hotel Zoku, Hotel Arena, La Place Nijmegen and Hotel Artemis. Hrbs supplies crops and herbs in circular trays from a local herb nursery.

Fairmont Loves Film Event Series | Turns cinematic moments into memories with a new generation of filmmakers

Fairmont Loves Film Event Series launched with Gia Coppola as film ambassador and retrospective photographic exhibits in Toronto, London and Shanghai. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts introduced the Fairmont Loves Film event series, comprised of pop-up events and a retrospective photo exhibit officially premiering at Fairmont Royal York during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, from September 6 – September 16 2018) and later traveling to London and Shanghai. Next to that they entered a partnership with film director and screenwriter Gia Coppola in the new role of Film Ambassador and Curator for Fairmont Loves Film. To celebrate this exciting program, Fairmont has also partnered with TIFF as the Official Gala Program Sponsor throughout the duration of the world-renowned festival.

The Maison Heler hotel project is part of the social, ecological and economic development of Metz, in a new neighborhood dedicated to culture, housing and business. Located on Metz’s former freight station, Maison Heler Metz is the most ambitious urban planning development launched in the region for a century. Philippe Starck designed this new hotel with an 18^th century traditional Alsatian home on top of a, 14 floors, monolithic and monochromatic building for the Curio Collection by Hilton. read more

‘Kosher-style’ dinner | Sidney Schutte creates dinner with Itzik Barak

From Tuesday the 24th to Thursday, January 26th, 2017 chef executive Sidney Schutte of Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam will be cooking dinner in his kitchen on the Herengracht with his Israeli colleague Itzik Barak of Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem. The chefs will compose a six-course menu based on modern, gourmet, Israeli cuisine, of which Itzik Barak is one of the main exponents.
