Today, in 6800 Starbucks outlets, one can pay with a Starbucks Card Mobile app for Blackberry, iPhone or iPod Touch. The digital customer card can be upgraded by credit card or PayPal.

On World AIDS Day, Starbucks donated 5 cents from every coffee sold to (RED). With the action “Share a red cup” Starbucks hopes to raise much money for this charity. Through the website of Starbucks it is possible to buy a ‘red cup’ for all your friends on Facebook.
Starbucks has teamed up with Yahoo and rolled out a digital network in the U.S.. In 6.800 Starbucks stores in the U.S. customers can visit online news sites that usually are not free of charge. The network consists of six channels: news, entertainment, wellness, business, careers, and a Starbucks channel. Besides the news, restaurant reviews, music and videos are also available. The network is suitable for a wide variety of devices such iPads, Blackberry, and Android phones.
Starbucks uses the online tool “My Starbucks idea” to improve their concept. Guests can submit ideas about the products and the concept online. Already 70,000 ideas have been submitted. Ideas that are executed, will be published on the website.

In August of this year we read about the first rumours that McDonald’s would introduce a new spin off called CosMc’s. Now the news is in the open and they started to trial in the first location Bolingbrook, Illinois. It’s opening today! The concept is based on CosMc, a McDonald’s-craving space alien, who first appeared as a character in the late 80’s and early 90’s promotional advertisements. CosMc’s is a new small-format, beverage-led concept that’s inspired by nostalgia and powered by a menu of bold, refreshing beverages and tasty treats.
