Trends we spotted | Week 28

At hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, among other links to articles about Corona Beer who invented a handy and sustainable interlocking assembly system. We also found an article about a luxury villa which makes a very special gesture in order to get high guest satisfaction.

In Dubai the new observatory deck ‘The view at the Palm’ (at the Palm Jumeirah) will be revealed by the end of 2019. And Nestlé developed a recyclable paper packaging for their Yes snack bars.

In London pup-up stores are rising night and day, with two very special stores coming up this summer like the Treats Club and The Clean Vic. And staying in London: Pick & Cheese will serve hungry Londoners an endless supply of cheese, all delivered via a 40-metre conveyor belt!  

From the Dudley Arms in Ingleby Greenhow in North Yorkshire we spotted a video on how to make their specialty: ‘Flowering Onion’. And a link to a new list: ‘The World’s 50 Best Vineyards’.

CEDER’S | A premium drink with all the flavors of gin, without the alcohol

Launched this week on the Dutch market: CEDER’S, an alcohol-free alternative to gin. The premium brand with Swedish and South African roots contains all flavors of gin but without alcohol. This makes CEDER’S one of the first to offer Dutch consumers an alcohol-free alternative to gin that does not compromise on taste. From the end of June, the first of the three flavors, CEDER’S Crisp, will be launched at 450 Gall & Gall locations in the Netherlands.

September 10 was the official release of the third Non-alcoholic Spirit to join the Seedlip family with celebratory Grove 42 cocktails hosted at the Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Grove 42 is a celebration of the Orange; an adult, citrus blend of copper-pot distillates including Bitter Orange, Mandarin, Blood Orange, Lemongrass, Sansho Peppercorn, Ginger & Lemon.

Seedlip just introduced, with great pride, their third non-alcoholic spirit, Grove 42. Grove 42 is a celebration of the orange and can best be described as a mix of copper distilled citrus-flavours, containing bitter orange, tangerines, blood orange, lemongrass, ginger and lemon. Beer for breakfast | Instock makes granola out of ‘bierbostel’

Together with bakery Lanskroon, Instock created their own granola. The main ingredient of the granola is the ‘bierbostel’ from the Troost Brewery. Bierbostel is the nutritious malt residue of the beer brewing process. Beer for breakfast is a nutritious and alcohol-free breakfast product that prevents food waste. Nice idea as hangover breakfast! read more

vandeStreek beer brewed the first alcohol-free IPA in the Netherlands. Nowadays, a lot of people love to drink alcohol-free beer (last year we consumed a whopping 18% more of alcohol-free beer in the Netherlands), but a real good and tasty alcohol-free IPA we haven’t seen yet. From now onwards, you can drink an alcohol-free IPA and drive or go the gym. The brewery is working at their Playground beer series and the IPA is one of them. It’s a limited edition, once the beer gets successful more will be brewed. read more

Last week, Coca-Cola launched its new brand: FÏNLEY in the Netherlands . FÏNLEY is a refreshing, alcohol-free, and low-calorie beverage which you can drink as refreshing drink in the afternoon or as a mocktail in the evening. Happy Drinks Mastershaker 2017 | The Madonna (like a virGIN)

At the beginning of this year we wrote about the Happy Drinks The Battle. With this initiative Pierre Wind and the ‘Trimbos-instituut’ wanted to challenge the hospitality and hospitality schools to make the supply of non-alcoholic beverages more exciting and more diverse. Monday the 6th of March at the finals of the Happy Drinks The Battle, Mark Jędrzejewski, bartender of  De Smaakambassade, was awarded as Happy Drinks Mastershaker 2017. From the winning drink ‘The Madonna (like a virGIN)’, a special edition handmade syrup will be created. This will be done by Pinky Rose. This syrup will also be available for hospitality businesses. They hope that the The Madonna (like a virGIN) is going to be the mocktail of 2017! read more
