March 15, the first e-dining restaurant in the Netherlands opened its doors in Rotterdam. The restaurant, named Izkaya, will serve dishes from various Asian cuisines. In the restaurant you don’t order your food at the waiters but via the touch panel in the table. Using the table you can browse through the different dishes and order food and drinks. You can also change the “tablecloth”, take a look in the kitchen through a webcam, play games and view and ask for the check.

Starbucks locations in Toronto and Vancouver are promoting Tazo Tea via interactive window displays. Customers can discover everything about the teas by touching the screen. In this way guests are informed about the teas’ origins and ingredients in a interactive, visual and fun format.

With the new Vegman iPhone app you can search for vegetarian restaurants. Both the app as the community website are still under construction. At the moment there are over 1.100 restaurants in the database, 50 of those are in the Netherlands.

The Australian bar Shebeen, that will open soon, has developed a different way to donate for charity. Rather than requiring that patrons write a check or click through a donation site online, the bar simply asks that they drink an exotic beer or glass of wine. Each time they do, a donation is made to the beverage’s country of origin.
