A number of new concepts have opened in the past few months. Last month, among other things, we wrote about the enthusiasm for Matcha concepts in Amsterdam! This month a little more variety in the newest hospitality concepts, from a Thai dessert shop in Utrecht or a restaurant in Bloemendaal to a unique pastry concept in Amsterdam!   • Savor has developed a technology that turns carbon into cooking fats, oils, and other food products, like butter.
  • Artist Iwan Smit designed the 2024 Duvel Glasses. The theme for the design is, ‘making a real connection’.

  • After a redesign the Asian restaurant Mr. Sam will reopen this month in Amsterdam.
  • Earlier we wrote about the introduction of the German app NeoTaste in Amsterdam, they’re now expanding to many more Dutch cities. They have a lot of restaurants offering special culinary benefits in Amsterdam and Rotterdam for example.
  • Pasquale Carfora, chef of Aroma Italian Fine Dining Restaurant in the small Dutch town of Vaassen, is named winner of the renowned Primo dei Campi competition in Italy.
  • Chiel Dohmen, owner of restaurant By Chiel in Zutphen, has been awarded the prestigious Gerrit de Kiewit Trophy of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Nederland.

Opening – Ingrid and Henrie van der Heijden opened Restobar Vista in Rotterdam on July 15th 2024. It’s the second restaurant of the couple, who also own Michelin star restaurant Vista in Willemstad. Guests at Restobar Vista Rotterdam dine with a unique view over the water of the Nieuwe Maas river, the Erasmus Bridge and the skyline of Rotterdam. The new establishment is run by chef Kimmo Geus and hostess Nikki Bijtenhoorn.

Otomat serves ‘Heavenly pizza & glorious beer’ according to their website. It is a chain of pizza restaurants with branches in Antwerp (MAS), Ghent (with a view of ‘the Leie’ and a ‘Paddle in’), Bruges, Leuven and Mechelen. Otomat says it has reinvented the pizza experience and given it a unique Belgian twist. They create pizza with Flemish classics, the pizza bases have a local touch and, of course, the ‘beer pairings’! They have a special menu this summer and in addition they ask “to Otomat or Notomat?” upon entering. Curious?

Opening – Chef Wouter van Laarhoven and hostess Malou Hagenaars opened Alma Bistro in the Dutch city Breda earlier this month. The gastronomic bistro is the couple’s third establishment after Michelin star restaurant Alma Fine Dining and Alma Bodega in Oisterwijk. Guests can enjoy high-quality bistro dishes and fine wines in a relaxed atmosphere with high-level service.
