Hôtel Plaza Athénéé has teamed up with the talented fine art photographer Gray Malin for a photo shoot with dogs, great images on ‘My Dogs from Paris’! And in San Francisco restaurant Dogue serves a tasting menu for your dog. Some dogs have so much luxury around them.
Interesting initiative in London where Head Room Café brings awareness and access to mental health support. And ghost kitchen chain Casper from Belgium recently also launched in the Dutch cities The Hague and Rotterdam.
Last week, the hotels Moxy the Hague and Residence Inn by Marriott the Hague were officially opened, located in the Muzentoren in the city center. And chef Bart De Pooter opened his plant-based restaurant WILDn at the Sapphire House Antwerp.
The last week of September New York enjoyed ‘La vie en rose’ by Maison Valentino, a great example of going ‘Pink all the way’. And OneThird developed a scanner to determine the ripeness of avocados and received a voucher from the Foundation Together Against Food Waste to test this on the shop floor.
A ‘koopstoot’ from Brewery ‘t IJ

A thousand bottles, a lot of beer, one genever. On 13 October, Brewery ‘t IJ in Amsterdam will launch its first own limited edition spirit. The kopstoot or in English heatbutt is a glass of beer with a genever and a typical Amsterdam invention. As an Amsterdam brewer, the choice to make genever (Dutch gin) alongside beer is therefore a logical one. Brewery ‘t IJ decided to distil beer and process it into genever, whose characteristic flavour is due to additions of celery and caraway seeds. A drink according to the standards of ‘t IJ: pure and smooth, with a soft spiciness that combines well with the beers of Brewery ‘t IJ.
ADE Cocktail Guide by The Entourage Group

It’s almost time for ADE again! Between 19 and 23 October, Amsterdam turns yellow and that can only mean one thing; Amsterdam Dance Event. Especially for this week, The Entourage Group’s restaurants have created an ‘ADE Cocktail Guide’ for the city and a special cocktail will be added to each menu. So those looking to get in the mood before or after a party know where to go.
Private members’ club The Cover opens in Amsterdam

Sircle Collection, a form origin Dutch hospitality group, presents private members’ club The Cover. This new private members’ club welcomes entrepreneurs, innovators and creatives from this winter on in the historic ‘Rijkskantoorgebouw voor Geld- en Telefoonbedrijf’ in Amsterdam. The former Kas Bank building already houses several well-known enterprises, such as restaurant The Duchess*, W Amsterdam and Dutch design shop X BANK. These companies will soon be joined by The Cover.

IKEA Netherlands participates in ‘Eat No Animals Day’ and they are now also offering coffee with oat drink

From today on, 4th of October, IKEA Netherlands is also offering customers and employees oat drink for their coffee. A cup of coffee at IKEA is well known to many – the free coffee for IKEA Family members attracts many extra visitors to the restaurants every day. By offering oat drink as an option alongside cow’s milk, the Swedish store wants to introduce as many people as possible to plant-based food and drinks in an approachable way. They are also taking part in ‘Eat No Animals Day’, an initiative by the Dutch foundation ‘Wakker Dier’ (Awake Animal).
‘The Garden of Holland’ builds local healthy food chain

On 29 September, 17 leading chain parties ratified their cooperation by signing a covenant. Beagles & Beans celebrates World Animal Day with free coffee

Sam’s Anchor Cafe raises $300k+ with inaugural Bootleggers NFTs

Sam’s Anchor Cafe – open since 1920 on the San Francisco Bay – has completed a successful launch of its first NFT (non-fungible token) collection, raising more than $300,000 with a sell-out of the limited-edition Sam’s Bootleggers NFTs. Sam’s Bootleggers NFTs, with artwork by San Francisco designer Anthony Laurino, were developed by ViciNFT. The 244-unit collection sold out entirely through presale! The NFTs are caricature images of Sam Vella, a notorious bootlegger who founded Sam’s during Prohibition.
QUB® container bistro Watt’n Blick is semi-mobile and seaworthy

‘Watt’n Blick’ is the name of the food concept of two young entrepreneurs from Norddeich, their name can be translated as ‘What a view’ and that is because their guests can enjoy a unique North Sea panorama. Because Watt’n Blick proves what seemed impossible until now: that gastronomy can be reconciled with a natural World Heritage Site and operated in a high-water area. The seaworthy and semi-mobile bistro in the QUB® container is the first on the seaward side of the dike in Germany.

The Art of Drinks is a three-day drinks festival (October 29-31 at the Gashouder in Amsterdam with a public event on Saturday. The Sunday edition is specially set up for people working in liquor stores and specialist shops and on Monday they aim at professionals in the hospitality industry.

Asian BBQutie | Pop-up in a bridge keeper’s house

Asian BBQutie is open until the end of December in the bridge keeper’s house on the ‘Lage Erf Brug’ in the Delfshaven, Rotterdam. The location is very small, so they only offer one table, perfect for a group of up to 10 people, if you come with less you slide in with others. This is Asian BBQ’s 9th location in 14 years, they offer a small menu and Moo Kata. At the bridge keeper’s house you can enjoy the view of the Schie, quite spectacular when the bridge opens!
Fat Phill’s Leiden opens and will be treating some of you

The family business Privatkelterei Van Nahmen has been around since 1917 and started producing apple syrup. Since the 1930s, they started specialising in fruit juices also. Current owner Peter van Nahmen combines sustainability and tradition with innovation. Resulting, among other things, in ‘Sparkling Juicy Tea’. Three unique products have emerged from a collaboration with tea sommeliers, including Niklas Schmeink (Tea Master Gold): unique blends of cold brew tea and fruit juice. A beautiful, ecological and vegan alternative for those who have to drive everybody home or those who don’t drink alcohol!
Lowlander Pumpkin Weizen, from rescued pumpkin

Botanical brewer Lowlander brings a breath of fresh air to the fall beer season and introduces the Lowlander Pumpkin Weizen (5% abv). In keeping with the beer brand’s ambition to become “Nature Positive” by 2030, the Pumpkin Weizen contributes to the fight against food waste. The fall beer is brewed with rescued pumpkins that could not be sold due to beauty flaws. The Lowlander Pumpkin Weizen is from now on available at Albert Heijn, in the better catering industry and via the Lowlander webshop, among others.
We previously wrote about the first alcohol-free craft beer tap and Lowlander’s Cool Earth Lager, to combat climate change. In 2021, for every Cool Earth Lager beer sold, Lowlander planted a seagrass plant in the Wadden area. Last year we also wrote about their I.P.A. Re-Genever, their Botanical beer garden to go and more other interesting articles. We are always very enthusiastic about the initiatives of Lowlander, and we are again very curious about this new beer, what would you drink it with?

SAAM restaurant, where culinary South Africa and Amsterdam come together

Team of renowned chefs and sommeliers open a restaurant this fall.
When a variety of individuals and factors come together, something unique is born. This fall, a similar symbiosis is planned with the launch of a new restaurant that brings South Africa and Amsterdam together. SAAM restaurant (South Africa – AMsterdam), which also means “together” in Afrikaans, is the outcome of a merger of these two culinary worlds. The staff behind this restaurant has a clear goal and a wealth of expertise. Executive chef Margot Janse oversees the kitchen, which is headed by chefs Jasper Hermans and Thomas Kooijman. A staff of expert sommeliers, led by Koen van der Plas and Max van Bockel, is also on hand to serve the finest wines from South Africa and Europe to SAAM restaurant visitors. Rosemary Wessels oversees sales, marketing, and the back office.
We recently wrote about another interesting concept that will launch in Amsterdam this fall. Cape Town Social Club is another hospitality outlet with an South-African twist that will open this fall in the Jordaan. We are really curious about both concepts and hope to visit them soon!

From 15th September 2022 – to coincide with London Fashion Week – Claridge’s ArtSpace will exhibit celebrity photographer Gavin Bond’s unseen archive imagery from the early 90s fashion scene in a specially curated 4-D showcase. The Gavin Bond: Being There Showcase presented by Moët & Chandon and Claridge’s will present photography of standout fashion moments featuring designers from Yves Saint Laurent and Jean Paul Gaultier, to Valentino and Versace, and the supermodels of the era – from Kate and Naomi to Claudia and Carla. This photography, rediscovered by Bond in lockdown, results in a sensational showcase of large scale vinyls of the shots, plus displays of Bond’s many scrapbooks, collections of 90s headline catwalk show invitations and video footage from the era.

New interior for Limburg’s top restaurant De Leuf

Restaurant De Leuf in Ubachsberg, South Limburg, has a new interior. The top restaurant of the Van de Bunt family got a contemporary design with Asian elements executed in local materials. The interior is now even more in touch with the cooking style of De Leuf, which combines modern French cuisine with Asian influences.
The interior has been given a serene atmosphere with subtle Asian elements, executed in local materials. Tim Reiters of Ontwerpbureau Reiters in Maastricht signed for the design, which has the theme ‘Asian aesthetics using local materials’.
