Inspiration from 2018 | What-a-Melon

Inspiration from London: Dominique Ansel Bakery in London served soft serve in a slice of watermelon sourced from Italy last summer. The ice cream, called What-a-Melon, was made with fresh watermelon juice and ‘seeds’ made of dark chocolate. It first launched at Dominique Ansel Bakery in Tokyo in 2017.

Ice Cream served in lemons or oranges is quite common but in a slice of watermelon? It looks great and delicious though! Inspiration for ice cream parlors.

 In an American article we have spotted the pre-dinner drink Haus, a start-up in aperitifs with a lower alcohol level than other spirits. Sounds delicious! And start-up Third Aurora is busy creating self-translating wine labels! With a link to a video how this works!

Polo Bar London | Piles of pancakes and always open

The Polo Bar in London, located near Liverpool Street Station, is an old restaurant/bar (has been around since 1953) that’s becoming more and more famous recent years. The reason: the famous pile of pancakes that’s being served there and the fact that the place is open 24 hours a day. No matter what time you come in, an English breakfast can always be ordered, as well as a good stack of pancakes!

YouTube has been a source of inspiration for spotting trends past few years. Every day, thousands of movies are uploaded with new and interesting content. We too sometimes use videos as a source of inspiration to write about. With this week again a selection of videos which Micha Luksenburg thinks are worth watching.

This week a video about Chef Miro Uskokovic at the Gramercy Tavern who uses alternative sugars and he is making a delicious looking ‘ice cream sundae’ with these sugars. Next to that a video about a special collaboration between Airbnb and the Louvre museum and finally a video about drones delivering coffee in Australia. read more

This week, among other links to an article about cheese tea, it’s getting more and more popular, but we haven’t spotted it yet in the Netherlands! In New York, the long anticipated Mercado Little Spain has opened in the shopping area Hudson Yards. Great images of this food hall by José Andrés in an article at Eater.com.

We also spotted the Taiwanese Boba Tea shop ‘Happy Lemon’ that uses robots to mix Boba Tea and in Switzerland they’re seriously testing the effect of music on cheese! Really!

In London PizzaExpress ZA opened at Fenchurch Street, we love their packaging for the new pizza slices. And have you ever heard of ‘Blue Java Bananas’? We didn’t, but they sound delicious! read more
