From the 1^st till the  6^th of August, we can once again enjoy a spectacular Pride in Amsterdam with the theme #YOUAREINCLUDED. We have compiled a small collection of Pride 2023 events, parties, food dishes, ‘cocktails for a cause’, make-up workshops, an exposition, bingo, parade initiatives and the #TakeAStance initiative for sharing views and proposing solutions for inclusivity.

Cocktail festival SHAKE! | 10 cocktail bars in Amsterdam North

On July 21, 22 and 23, Door 74 will host cocktail festival SHAKE! This festival takes place at Helling 7 and Lagerwal, where the initiators, together with ten Amsterdam cocktail bars and various brands, bring the vibrant cocktail scene closer to the public. The other participating cocktail bars are: The Tailor, Cielo, Rosalia’s Menagerie, Super Lyan, Pulitzer’s Bar, Vesper, Law & Order, Feijoa and Café Panache.

The Celestial Snow Globe | The Claridge’s Christmas Tree 2021

London, November 24th 2021 – Claridge’s, London’s legendary Mayfair hotel has unveiled Claridge’s Christmas Tree 2021 in the hotel lobby, created by Kim Jones, Artistic Director of the Dior men’s collections.

Every year we write about the Claridge’s Christmas Tree, because we simply love the idea! Creating buzz and free publicity together! We loved the decorations by McQueens Flowers, Christian Louboutin and Karl Lagerfeld for example. Last week the Pulitzer hotel announced that their Christmas Tree will be decorated by Claes Iversen, and this tree will be ready in the beginning of December. As said: this idea can be used at every level: have your lobby decorated for the Holiday Season by a local artist and create a buzz and free publicity with a great tree lighting party! cal artists in designing the annual Christmas tree.

Christmas inspiration 2021 | Examples of other restaurants, fast food chains and hotels

We have been sharing inspiration on our website since 2007, inspiration that we find in the hospitality industry or by online spotting of what our colleague hospitality entrepreneurs all over the world are doing. If you search our website for ‘Christmas’, you will get pages full with examples like glitter gravy, the Christmas afternoon in Hengelo to storytelling by the Rocco Forte hotel chain under the name of #RFWinterTale.

Our last real Christmas publication was ‘Christmas Gestures’ back in 2013, containing examples of ‘golden cutlery’ or ‘golden Japanese sticks’, ‘golden fortune cookies’ but also pizza slices and pizza boxes in the Christmas tree. For our 2021 publication we went to find inspiration for decorating a Christmas tree for in restaurants, fast food chains, bars or hotels at FAAS Est in Leiden. A great shop that sells all kinds of food ornaments. Check out their photos on the front page of this years publication. In ‘Christmas inspiration 2021’ we particularly mention inspiration to celebrate Christmas outdoor, a safe way to have fun with your guests this Holiday Season.

Back to live, back to reality | The Best Chef Awards

The fifth edition of The Best Chef Awards will take place in Amsterdam on 13, 14 and 15 September. Its a gastronomic ceremony where the top 100 chefs worldwide are announced. During these three days, various culinary events will take place in and around the capital between (inter)national top chefs and well-known restaurants.

Including the following events: Food Meets Science, Food and Space, AREA Talks and of course The Awards Gala on September 15th. And on September 15, the Four Hands Lunch Jansz. x Manu Buffara will take place in restaurant Jansz of the Pulitzer Hotel.

Trends we spotted | Week 3

At hospitalitytrends.eu we spot many national and international trends on a daily basis. We pick the most interesting ones to write about, the smaller trends we use in our weekly column ‘Trends we spotted this week’.

This week, among other links to articles about Selfridges that has a café with an adult-sized slide in its window and about Lets Golf!, they transformed the city of Groningen into a minigolf park.

During the Hotelnacht (the hotel night) 2020 in Amsterdam (the 18^th of January) you can participate at Taiko Bar’s Asian Karaoke Night at the Conservatorium hotel. Or visit the Pulitzer x Lindt during the Hotelnacht 2020. They’re creating a chocolate heaven!

In December the first vegan cheese shop opened in Amsterdam and in London a pop-up cheese-themed hotel will open! An idea by Café Rouge.

Le Prestine in Antwerp, the new restaurant for Sergio Herman is looking for staff, they will open this April. Also a link to ‘The Jungle Bubble by Anantara’ in Thailand, watching elephants from your bed and bubble! And inspiration for a children’ playground from Beijing, the Baoyan Park Children’s Entertainment Park.

 August 3, you can celebrate Pulitzer Pride in Amsterdam! They create a pontoon, with a cocktail bar and delicious Dutch food! Hotel Pulitzer also won Netherlands’ Leading Hotel 2019 at the World Travel Awards.

 Do you know which restaurants and chefs are on ‘The Best of The Best’ list of ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’? And Starbucks opened its third delivery-focused ‘Star Kitchen’ in Beijing.

This week, amongst others, a link to an article about the collaboration between the Dutch department store the Bijenkorf and the Pulitzer Hotel with as result a great Christmas tree. Although we have to admit the Churchill Arms in Kensington Christmas decoration beats everything! And we wished we were living London, we would love to try the ‘Bumper cars on ice’ at the Elephant & Castle rink! The Angad Arts Hotel has yellow, red, green and blue mood rooms and Dominique Ansel the Cronut® creator, will host online masterclasses. Wouldn’t you love to learn how to make some of his creations?
