With this week links to articles about Kaspar Schmauser, a German, vegan food concept launched in 2021 and that is expanding in Germany. And IKEA introduced the plantdog in the Netherlands. The plantdog is cheaper than the chicken hot dog.

Häagen-Dazs by General Mills brings luxury to the yogurt aisle in the USA with the debut of ‘Cultured Crème’. And according to a study New York state is the most vegan obsessed state.

We came across an article on wellness in hotels and they mentioned pickleball, a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong. They even mentioned hotels and resorts opened pickleball courts. As its courts are smaller it might be a great sport for the sportive grey brigade who used to play tennis.

For those travelling to Paris this September, Big Mamma returns with its 100% street food festival at La Felicità! On September 16 and 17. And also in France: at Mérignac (near Bordeaux) the first dog pool, Mouille tes Pattes, opened. We love the idea!

Hell Energy is the world’s first AI created energy drink. And at restaurant THE DUCHESS you can enjoy a special, Instagrammable and enchanting scroppino. Check out their Instagram post!

KETEL 1 introduced their Hard Lemonades, ready to drink in the 2 flavors, strawberry & watermelon and lemon & lime.

The Vega Pop-up restaurant will be in Rotterdam in October

7-9-2015

From the first of October the Vega Pop-up restaurant will serve exclusively vegetarian and vegan dishes in their pop-up restaurant in Rotterdam for five days per week (Wednesday/Sunday). They will be in the ‘Westelijk Handelsterrein’ in Rotterdam for the entire month of October.

Why a Vega Pop-up restaurant?

Earlier we wrote about the initiative of, amongst others, Friedjof Kempenaar. They want to show the people in the Netherlands that the vegetarian kitchen is already far beyond the ‘Birkenstock’-image. They serve various small dishes to choose from the menu but you can also opt for a full evening menu. The dishes are served in the size of a ‘side dish’ so that you can taste even more … The wine list is vegan as well, which means that the wines are not filtered with the use of animal products.

Improve the image of the vegetarian and vegan cuisine

Vega Pop-up responds to the lack of good, but especially modern, vegetarian and vegan restaurants in the Netherlands. Through a variety of campaigns and food scandals, more and more people start eating ‘mindfully’ and sometimes even make the choice to eat vegetarian or vegan. At most restaurants the choice for these people is still poor. The Vega Pop-up is serving a trendy choice of vegan or vegetarian dishes and is having a cocktail bar and a DJ until the early hours on Friday and Saturday.

In New York City, Chunk Foods and Pastrami Queen announced a new partnership. Since Thursday, August 1, Pastrami Queen’s Moynihan Food Hall location serves “The Prince powered by Chunk”, a wonderful combination of Chunk’s award-winning plant-based Slab prepared as Pastrami, New York deli mustard, rye bread, and a pickle. This exciting collaboration honours the rich culinary heritage of NYC while embracing new, delicious, meaty options.

Sometimes a name brings back memories! Back in the eighties I travelled frequently to NYC, staying either in Brooklyn or on Manhattan. I can still remember the taste of my first pastrami sandwich. I hope the ‘The Prince powered by Chunk’ offers vegans the same memories! ^Marjolein  read more

Otomat serves ‘Heavenly pizza & glorious beer’ according to their website. It is a chain of pizza restaurants with branches in Antwerp (MAS), Ghent (with a view of ‘the Leie’ and a ‘Paddle in’), Bruges, Leuven and Mechelen. Otomat says it has reinvented the pizza experience and given it a unique Belgian twist. They create pizza with Flemish classics, the pizza bases have a local touch and, of course, the ‘beer pairings’! They have a special menu this summer and in addition they ask “to Otomat or Notomat?” upon entering. Curious?

At last we have warm, sunny weather here in the Netherlands! We made a list of the ultimate summer drinks that we love to drink on the terrace. Think of a Tomatini, an old-fashioned Pimm’s Cup, Negroni, Lychee Martini or a cocktail flight! But also the various non-alcoholic drinks – like a Santani organic soda or a small bottle of Crodino for those who love the Aperol taste! The latter is also orange, a great non-alcoholic alternative while watching the Dutch team during the European Championships. 😉
