High-end hotels sometimes offer an array of luxury soaps and other personal cleansing items. We haven’t seen the personalization and selection at the level of Mexico’s Viceroy Riviera Maya before. A ‘soap concierge’ at the newly renovated luxury hotel now offers guests a choice of locally made soaps and then hand-cuts bars on the spot from their selections.

Fries as healthy as possible

The fries from NYF are made from select Russet and Russet Burbank potatoes. They leave the skin on for extra flavor and nutrition. The potatoes are cooked in non-hydrogenated (trans fat, cholesterol free) sunflower oil in an unique 3-stage cooking process to create the perfect fry texture hot and crisp on the outside, and light and fluffy on the inside.

There are free workshops during the afternoon (for example making pasta, taste wine or oysters) and a (paid) pre-taste of five new menu dishes at the evening. A simple but effective concept. Why? It creates community bonding, the free activities are interesting and there is a good change that people will return.

In the Tianmashan Mountain (China) the Shanghai Shimao Property Group is building the InterContental Shimao Wonderland, a hotel that’s situated 100 meters below the earth surface. There are three floors above the ground and the other 16 are below. The high-end hotel will open in 2014 or 2015.

The iNG restaurant and the Moto restaurant in Chicaco did introduce their new April Showers menu in a YouTube movie. We already placed
the movie yesterday, a great example of showing your menu. We especially liked the dessert in a flowerpot.

Caterer ‘5 breads and 2 fishes’ has created a luxury lunchbox for a presentation of new products from Keune Cosmetics at the press conference in Audax Amsterdam. The ingredients of the lunchbox where inspired by the smell of the new products. Like mint-rosemary; ginger-lemon; lavendel and orange.

Stéfhan van der Sligte, a Dutch entrepeneur, has created the digital beer app. With the app guest do get a second beer for free and for participating pubs this should ensure more costumers. The app shows the pubs in the city where you can get a second beer for free. The guest chooses a pub and activates the beercode and shows this code by ordering.

The Brazalian brewer ABInBev’s Skol produced in partnership with chocolaterie Folie and São Paulo ad agency F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi easter eggs with beer. It seems that this is a seasonal one-off action, but could be a nice variation on the liqueur chocolates.
Restaurants grow vegetables in office

The iNG restaurant and the Moto restaurant in Chicago grow their own vegetables on a rotating cone. Because the vegetables are freshly picked they keep their fresh bite. The plants are fed with waste from the kitchen. The restaurants are working to expand the building to grow more vegetables.

‘The Spot of Jaffa’ is a lickable wallpaper, here installed in an elevator. Inspired by Willy Wonka, Chef Heston Blumental and artist Damien Hirst created this wallpaper. Employees of Engine, a communications company in London, tried the first wallpaper of McVities Jaffa Cakes in their elevator. The wallpaper consists of flavored stickers that are removed and replaced after a lick, a responsible task for the elevator attendant. We want a wall like this!
