The Museum Aan de Stroom (MAS) is a diamond in the Antwerp harbor area, next to old cranes and a marina. The imposing building is located in a relatively unknown part of the city and houses a museum, the raw Café Storm and two star restaurant ‘t Zilte by Viki Geunes. With this mix of interests the area attracts a diverse audience.

‘Antwerpen Proeft’ (Antwerp Tastes) is Belgium’s culinary highlight this summer. Chefs with a 15+ ranking in the Gault&Millau BeLux will cook all-in arrangements as well as bites for visitors. The Chéfs that participate this year are Viki Geunes (‘t Zilte), Wouter Keersmaekers (De Schone van Boskoop), Axel Colonna-Cesari (Centpourcent), Dave De Belder (De Godevaart) and Kaasaffineurs Michel Van Tricht & Zoon (cheese and beer pairing experts).
Next to the prominent chefs there are local and artisanal products like hand made Moon Pops ice creams.
Escapism in Frabriken Furillen Hotel

Hotel Fabriken Furillen is located on a remote island off the Swedish island of Gotland in a former limestone quarry. The factory houses a hotel, restaurant and a bakery. There are hermit cabins alongside the hotel to escape the busy modern day lifestyle.

It is not a ‘real’ hotel, because of the missing licenses, but a range of shops, a café and a clothing shop of the leading Dutch design production company Droog. Droog creates products, projects and events around the world in collaboration with designers, clients and partners, located in Amsterdam. Hotel Droog is an exhibition space and test space and opens officially in September.

Music for the hearing impaired

Clash Club in São Paulo, Brazil recently held a night of music specially for the hearing impaired. During its recent “Feel the Sound” night, the club served up music via a sound system with enhanced bass to help those with hearing disabilities to feel the sound waves. Visual projections were highlighted with lasers and brighter lighting. Interpreter service was available and the staff of Clash underwent a training with a speech therapist.
