With this week links to articles about Kaspar Schmauser, a German, vegan food concept launched in 2021 and that is expanding in Germany. And IKEA introduced the plantdog in the Netherlands. The plantdog is cheaper than the chicken hot dog.
Häagen-Dazs by General Mills brings luxury to the yogurt aisle in the USA with the debut of ‘Cultured Crème’. And according to a study New York state is the most vegan obsessed state.
We came across an article on wellness in hotels and they mentioned pickleball, a combination of tennis, badminton and ping pong. They even mentioned hotels and resorts opened pickleball courts. As its courts are smaller it might be a great sport for the sportive grey brigade who used to play tennis.
For those travelling to Paris this September, Big Mamma returns with its 100% street food festival at La Felicità! On September 16 and 17. And also in France: at Mérignac (near Bordeaux) the first dog pool, Mouille tes Pattes, opened. We love the idea!

Expansion – The Carlton Hotel Collection is expanding. The four-star BANKS Antwerp, located in the historic heart of the city, is the latest addition to the international hotel company. With its quirky character and unique location, the hotel fits perfectly within the collection. Carlton takes over both ownership and day-to-day operations. After fifteen years, owners Carla Bartels and Daan Terlingen hand over the baton on July 1. That day Roelof Meijering will start as hotel manager in Antwerp. BANKS Antwerp is the second hotel of the Carlton Hotel Collection in Belgium, bringing the total number of hotels to thirteen.
American brand Firehouse Subs® opens in Zurich

The American brand, Firehouse Subs®, recently opened their first restaurant in Europe, in Zurich, Switzerland. At the same time Restaurant Brands International Inc. (RBI), parent company of Firehouse Subs announced the signing of a development agreement to launch in Mexico later this year. These announcements mark the beginning of the brand’s expansion plan globally, with the first opening outside North America and Canada where they have over 1,200 restaurants.

We also came across the fluffy pancakes by Rookies pancakes in Paris, where there are queues waiting every day. This is also the case at the Truffle Bakery in Tokyo! They sell buns baked with truffle butter, coated with truffle oil and truffle salt. And Restaurant Sophia Loren opens 4th restaurant at the airport of Rome.
Restaurant Aroma Italian Fine Dining in Vaassen has been named ‘Italian Restaurant of the Year’ in the Netherlands by the glossy Italy Magazine. They will also become members of JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs and the chef will publish a cookbook this fall. And the winner of the Chefs & Shakers competition by Don Papa Rum is: Team Havn and cocktail bar Feijoa. They created a small beer-like cocktail with luxury streetfood.
