PERENNIAL® | The 50+ consumer is getting more and more important

3-6-2019

  • PerennialPerennial
  • PerennialPerennial

We keep spotting more and more products, initiatives and simple, small gestures that benefit the 50+ consumer. Product wise we recently spotted PERENNIAL®. As they put it, the world over 50 is aging like no generation before, but the entrepreneurs behind PERENNIAL® think people could be aging better, and that is why they’ve launched their first product, to support those who want to thrive and not slow down like prior generations.

PERENNIAL® is just one of the products we recently spotted for the accelerating 50+ market in the US, we recently also spotted ‘Town Square’, an interactive experience for senior with dementia or Alzheimer’s. We think it’s trendy and time to start preparing the hospitality industry for the elderly guests. We don’t need to create new products but check if our daily offerings are attractive for this booming market. As they’re the ones that are enjoying more free time and most of them have the finance to have some fun! Unfortunately PERENNIAL® isn’t available on the Dutch market yet but we can expect these kinds of drinks or foods focusing on older groups of consumers, on the market within a couple of years.

Female entrepreneur from Rotterdam starts new Thai tea brand | 100% natural Tamnan Tea

28-5-2019

Tamnan Tea was founded by Penpak Boonla, an entrepreneur from Rotterdam and Stephan van IJperen. Their tea journey started  2 years ago. On one of their many trips to Thailand we met great and good-hearted people. Among them farmers who just want to have a normal, happy, simple life, but cannot market their beautiful and healthy products,  because of a gap in knowledge, network, support and market access. They market ‘Fresh Blue’, a lemongrass tea with a hint of ginger and handpicked blue pea flowers, which makes this tea a great refreshment. ‘Calm Green’, a loose kaffir lime tea that has a slightly bitter taste. To achieve the right balance you taste the soft flavors of pandan leaves en the freshness of lemongrass. ‘Mellow Yellow’, loose ginger tea with a Thai twist of fresh lemongrass and the soft flavor of pandan leaves. ‘Soft Sour Flower’, loose hibiscus tea with a soft sourness to it because of the added blue pea flower and lemongrass.

Colored teas, they’re trendy! Surprise your guests with Tamnan Tea or the blue tea from Crusio Thee or the red and blue matcha’s from Matcha.blue by Fluxias GmbH!

In 2016 we posted an article about Kever genever, the Amsterdam jenever (Dutch gin) brand. The brand wants to become the most innovative ‘jenever’ brand in the Netherlands. A first step in that direction is the introduction of the Kever 0.0% , ‘jenever’ without alcohol and therefore in line with the trend of conscious alcohol consumption. On May 10 2019, Kever started a crowdfunding campaign on the CrowdAboutNow platform. With this campaign they want to raise a minimum of € 100,000 up to a maximum of € 200,000 in order to be able to realize Kever 0.0%, but also to launch other high-profile Kever Genevers within 3 years. Meanwhile, 120% of their goal has been achieved and the crowdfunding still has 35 days to go!

In Paris, in the BHV Marais Homme on rue du Temple, Onda serves ‘une crêpe brésilienne’. This crêpe is called ‘la tapioca’ and is real Brazilian street food. ‘La tapioca’ is a ‘galette’ (a kind of savory pancake) with a velvety texture made from cassava flour. ‘La tapioca’ is vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free! You can pick this healthy snack all day at the location of the BHV (Bazar de l’Hôtel de Ville) Homme. Onda is open from Tuesday to Sunday.

Nice to try if you’re going to Paris this spring!

À la minute Tapioca at Onda

Onda is a street food stand started by Elsa who discovered this Brazilian delicacy during a stay in Brazil. The last 2 years she has traveled many festivals with a pop-up stand and now she is settled at the BHV Homme. Together with her brother Sacha, she makes à la minute tapioca’s with for example smoked salmon, avocado, tomato and salad, but also a more traditional tapioca with cheddar, avocado, tomato, pickles, red onion and jalapeno sauce. The Italian version also sounds delicious with mozzarella, dried tomatoes, tomatoes, arugula and pesto! Also on the menu: ‘Paes de queijo’, a kind of ‘Gougères’ with cheese (small airy balls of bread made from cassava flour). Besides ‘la tapioca’, you can enjoy smoothies at Onda and also an açaï bowl and a smoothie bowl with blue spirulina, banana, coconut milk and orange blossom.

Opened in the fall of 2018, ENSO ANGO’s five zen-inspired properties function as one to immerse the traveler in the living culture of Kyoto. Each property contains communal spaces and facilities, so that guests aren’t staying in one hotel building. Guests can choose to visit spaces in five buildings nestled into the charming side streets of central Kyoto. With six more buildings planned to join the current five, the people behind the progressive hotel concept ‘Enso Ango’ are committed to a continuing process of evolution and to further enriching the experience of their guests.

November 2019 we received a notice that as of November 30, 2019, Ango Hotels will end the operation of ENSO ANGO and Global Hotel Management will take over its operation from December 1, 2019 by mutual agreement. The name of the hotel is a subject to change in the future as the brand ENSO ANGO is created by Ango Hotels Inc.
