Okura app including jetlag program

The Amsterdam Okura Hotel developed an app for her guests. Through this app, the guests can contact the concierge, read the blog of Onno Kokmeijer (the chef of the restaurant), can collect suggestions for city trips en can even compose a jetlag program. This app is free of charge and available in the Apple iTunes store. A nice example of increasing the hotel service!

 

Rolling kitchen

“Rollende keukens” or ‘Rolling Kitchen’ is a concept where music, food and beverages meet and are served from mobile kitchens. This event takes place from the 2nd untill the 5th of June at the Culturepark  Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. From haute cuisine stands to excentric pizzamakers or a barbecue motorhome, it can all be seen here. Entry is free of charge.

 

Fish sandwichspread

Students of the university of Amsterdam introduced the “boterhamvis”; thin slices of white fish as sandwichspread. It is healthier than most of the meat slices and it might be cheaper.

A tram from 1927 is the new decor for the lunchroom ‘De Amsterdamsche Tram’ near the Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. The lunchroom wil open its doors the 11th of March.

The first Twittertaxi is a hit. The Amsterdam taxi driver Dave Kuipers is active on Twitter since last summer and his account now has 700 followers. People who need a taxi just need to send a Tweet. In his taxi Kuipers offers his customers the possibility to play with an iPad, which are at the headrests of the front seat.

The Champagne extinguisher

The latest creation of the Amsterdam artist Diddo Velema is the champagne extinguisher. The artist used a bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne and turned it into a fire extinguisher.

In Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Rotterdam and Groningen Dr. Oetker temporary opend Italian ‘Tradizionale’ stores. In these pop-up stores, Dr. Oetker’s new brick oven Tradizionale pizza are introduced. In these stores dr. Oetker want to offer customers the experience that comes with the new pizza. The brick oven pizza is available at the pop-up stores in two flavors: Speciale and tuna.

Less common parts dinner

Last Sunday restaurant Fifteen restaurant in Amsterdam organized a ‘Less common shares dinner’. It was a seven-course menu with ‘less common parts’ of food. These ingredients are often discarded because they are ‘scary’. Many chefs are scared to work woth ingredients like: kidneys, bone marrow or blood. By wokring with less common parts the initiators want to make sure kitchens will work more sustainably.
