Orange Wine, Smurfs Wine or a slushie with wine?
A glass of rosé or white wine in the sun, we love it! But at the moment Blue Wine is getting more and more popular. And we spotted the ‘new but old’ Orange Wine on the wine menu’s and we also found a slushie with wine! We made a list with different new and old wines you will most likely see on the terraces this summer. From the wine and fruit slushie you could make your own signature slushie! And we spotted a wine product that, we think, would do great in a bathroom of a hotel in a wine region!
1. Orange Wine
Orange Wines are wines made from grapes with a very light skin. The grapes were prepared differently than the normal white grapes. Normally they separate the juice and the grapes’ skin after the grapes have been squeezed, so the remaining juice is clear and not too dark. With Orange Wine they are leaving the grape skins and seeds in contact with the juice, creating a dark yellow, deep orange colour. The first ‘Orange Wine’ was made at the border area of Italy and Slovenia. We recently spotted it in Italy. The wine became quite popular among the more trendy winemakers and is now made in several areas. But the wine is still quite expensive and really hard to find! If you want to know more about Orange wines, read this article at Wine Folly!
2. Blue Wine
The blue ‘Gik’ wine has been spotted at different terraces in Amsterdam. Harold Hamersma (famous Dutch wine writer) spoke about the wine in a radio interview and wrote about it in the Dutch newspaper NRC. His comment: “Sweet, artificial and for Canei-wine girls!” The wine is also known as the ‘Smurfs wine’, though thankfully the colour of the wine is created in a natural way. The wine gets its colour from the pigment in blue grapes called indigo and anthocyanin. We haven’t tried it yet, but it sounds like a crazy wine for those who enjoy a sweet drink!
3. Slushie with wine
On Tasting Table we found some recipes for wine and fruit slushies! Watch the video above to see an example of a mango, watermelon and wine slushie! In the article on their website you’re also able to find links to recipes for ‘Triple Berry Wine slushies’ and ‘Peachy Keen Moscato Slushie’. Like the base to any good smoothie, it starts with a few cups of cubed frozen fruit in a blender. Add some white wine, when the wine is mixed in with the fruit, finish it with a squeeze of lime. A typical drink for women which potentially could be a huge success on your terrace this summer! And of course you could create your signature wine/fruit slushie.
4. A cool red wine recipe for the summer
On All recipes we found a recipe for a Sangria made with red wine. The fruit they use are blueberries, raspberries and a little bit of orange liqueur. In France you can find a Kir with red wine on many terraces; crème de cassis with a fruity red wine which should be served cold.
5. Alcohol free wine
We all know alcohol free beer, but did you know alcohol free wine exists as well? Actually the range to choose from becomes wider and wider, there are even some websites specialized in alcohol free wines!
6. Wine shampoo
Okay, shampoo with wine? It exists! Celebrity hair stylist John Blaine has launched a new hair care range including a shampoo, conditioner and hydro serum infused with red grape extract. Called Vine de la Vie, Blaine claims the products will leave your hair “healthier, softer and richer in colour”. Wouldn’t it be great to have these products in the bathroom of your hotel if it’s located in a wine region?
