Mr. Jordaan Hotel – the story of ‘Jordaan’ district
Situated in the heart of ‘Jordaan’, Amsterdam district, is the Mr. Jordaan hotel. Storytelling of the district has been integrated in the unique design of the hotel. Owner of this bed and breakfast hotel is Tsibo Lin, one of the owners of the ‘Foodhallen’.
Storrytelling about the Mr. Jordaan hotel
Mr. Jordaan is based on the true story of founder of the hotel, Loek van Onna. At the end of the 60’s Mr. van Onna started with offering sleeping places in his own house. Many guests stayed at his place, that Mr. van Onna expanded the number of rooms. Eventually he had his own hotel. Nowadays his type of offering sleeping places is called AirBnB.
The founder of the hotel was a famous local citizen of ‘Jordaan’, he created rumour about the Amsterdam canals. The hotel name, Mr. Jordaan is not only referring to the location but is as well the personification of the founder.
During the time of the establishment the rooms of Mr. van Onna’s hotel didn’t have their own locks. Instead of room keys, guests were provided with the key of his house.
The hotel
The re-branding and re-styling of the hotel has been done with elements out of the 60’s. These elements are combined with the Urban character of the hotel. For example, all headboards are custom made skylines of the Amsterdam canal buildings.
The vision of Loek van Onna has remained. Personal attention to the guests and sharing discovering the local hotspots of ‘Jordaan’ and the city of Amsterdam. This vision creates just as in the 60’s an extra experience for the guests.
Keys are pictured within the hotel’s design. The key is a symbol for the hospitality and the warm home feeling. ‘The hotel is still his sleeping place and your home’ says Tsibo.
