Mama Q | Named after Kelvin Lin’s mother
Mama Q is named after Kelvin Lin’s mother, who in recent years was Kelvin’s culinary backbone at the now-closed restaurant Nayolie in Voorschoten. With its distinctive modern Asian cuisine with influences from Thailand, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, Nayolie earned rave reviews in the national press, high listings in restaurant guides such as Michelin and was awarded ‘Asian Restaurant of 2020’ by restaurant guide Gault&Millau.
Quality Asian comfort food
The gourmet online shop’s range consists of Asian comfort food originating from Nayolie’s kitchen, which Mama Q created under the supervision of her son Kelvin Lin. Mama Q: “For instance, Kelvin’s famous prawn raviolis with langoustine farce are available, as well as poultry with curry. You can also order his ode to Thai street food queen Jai Fai: tom kha kai with poultry, lemongrass and lime leaf. Other offerings include dim sum, wagyu, dry aged smoked salmon, scallops, tuna sashimi, soups, sauces and iKi Beer by Kelvin Lin. As one has come to expect from Nayolie, we use top-quality ingredients only.”
All the way package
For lovers who want to taste a lot, there is an ‘All the way’ package and in addition, a chilled fresh menu can be ordered monthly and can be collected in Voorschoten. Everything is delivered frozen and partly chilled throughout the Netherlands with the exception of the Wadden Islands.
Mama Q had big role in Nayolie
Having been the operator of several Asian restaurants in the Netherlands, including the successful Red Chilli in Nieuwe Niedorp, Mama Q decided to help Kelvin at Nayolie restaurant in 2018. Kelvin Lin: “My mother is humble, but she played a big role there, from sharing her knowledge about Asian cuisine to mise en place and cooking during service and on location. During the hospitality lockdowns in the corona crisis, I developed a take away and delivery concept with her, which became very successful and still exists today. In addition, as my consultancy work in Asia and other activities took off, I closed Nayolie early 2022. But where I got busier, things got quieter for my mother, which she doesn’t appreciate.”
Do what makes you happy
Mama Q: “My heart is with Asian comfort food and I really wanted to keep sharing the love for that with others. With the online shop, I can continue to cook at my own pace and Kelvin and I can both express our culinary creativity. In addition, under the name Mama Q Food Solutions, we offer companies the opportunity to develop and produce Asian dishes, meal components, sauces, soups and pastries, possibly according to their own recipes. We can also be called in for advice on Asian cuisine. I am very happy with this new step. It also fits nicely into the Ikigai philosophy that we don’t retire, but continue to do what our heart is in.”
