Focus on medium- to long-term stays at aparthotel WunderLocke

Designed by interior designer Holloway Li, WunderLocke features 360 spacious designer apartments, a large coworking space, a coffee bar, meeting and event rooms, a heated outdoor pool, a sauna and a gym. Guests at aparthotel WunderLocke are accommodated in spacious one- and two-bedroom studios or apartments, some with a private terrace and panoramic views of the city and the Bavarian Alps. Each flat is designed for living. The aparthotels focus is therefore on medium- to long-term stays, with special rates for weekly or monthly stays. WunderLocke aims to be a welcoming place for the city’s emerging scene of artists, creatives and tech entrepreneurs.

Mural Farmhouse

Several restaurants and bars will also open in the aparthotel WunderLocke. Five restaurants and bars will take up residence over seven floors under the name Mural Farmhouse. Mural Farmhouse was conceived by the founders of the Michelin-starred Mural restaurant in Munich. The ambitious hospitality concept consists of a 70-cover restaurant open all day, a gourmet chef’s table, a coffee bar, a wine and cocktail bar, and a rooftop terrace with views of the Alps. The vision for Mural Farmhouse was developed in collaboration with internationally acclaimed chef Rico Birndt, who places circularity at the heart of his approach. In the context of ‘from farm to fork’, the ingredients are supplied by local producers. In the future, a kitchen garden on the roof of WunderLocke will provide herbs and vegetables.

‘Innerer Klang’ by Kandinsky

WunderLocke was designed by Holloway Li, and inspired by Vasily Kandinsky‘s theory of ‘Innerer Klang’ (inner voice). Kandinsky, who spent a significant part of his career in Munich, studied how we can develop a closer relationship to nature through abstraction. Li interpreted the artist’s theory by stripping the existing building down to its rough concrete frame from which renewal could take place in the form of the use of many plants. This approach enabled Li to create sustainable and sober designs. To soften the concrete, Li used earth tones alongside playful color accents and vibrant terrazzo, while warm woods, natural materials and botanical greenery allude to nature.

Aparthotel WunderLocke is a new creative hub

WunderLocke is a new creative hub in the south-west of Munich, breathing new life into the area’s industrial heritage. The city center is easily accessible from the aparthotel and the Alps are nearby. WunderLocke is a day and night destination due to its cultural program focusing on wellness, music, art, food and drinks. Various partnerships have been established with local businesses, including lifestyle and music duo Public Possession and fashion brand Coexist.

Eric Jafari, Chief Development Officer and Creative Director of Locke said, “WunderLocke is our most groundbreaking Locke yet and creates a destination in the heart of Munich where locals and travelers alike can immerse themselves in the city’s creative subculture. Our ambition with this project was to create a wonderland where you lose the sense of time.”

Moritz Meyn, founder of Mural: “The size of WunderLocke allowed us to set up an original culinary concept. It is a unique destination and we wanted to reflect that in our concept. We approach Mural Farmhouse in the same way and with the same philosophy as all the restaurants in the Mural family.”

Room rates start at €130 per night and €1300 per month. More information on their website.

Locke is part of the Edyn family, a hospitality group that operates service flats Cove and Saco. Edyn group also opened two Cove locations in The Hague and Amsterdam recently. Designed to offer business and leisure travelers more autonomy and flexibility than a typical hotel, it is suitable for short or long stays.
