Opening – This week, a new hospitality concept opens that offers plenty of room for Italian shared dining and a cozy drink at the charming red cocktail bar. La Nostra Gigi is located at the Marie Heinekenplein in De Pijp neighborhood in Amsterdam. Immersed in Italian atmospheres, La Nostra Gigi is a sparkling addition to the capital’s hospitality offerings. It’s a colorful trattoria, cocktail bar, and lounge all in one, where you can always go for an espresso macchiato, a nice glass of Chianti, a festive cocktail, or an extensive dinner. La Nostra Gigi, or ‘our Gigi, the girl from De Pijp’, hopes to offer an exciting, beautiful, and surprising concept, a concept unknown on the Marie Heinekenplein. A place that shapes itself around the changing needs of its guests. Stroll on the terrace for an afternoon, have a nice lunch with your mother, or order oysters with your friends later in the day. Cocktails? Nessun problema! Extensive dining? Certamente! La Nostra Gigi is much more than just the amazing Italian cuisine that is served, it is the place where you want it to be.
“I like to create restaurants and bars with a clear concept where everyone feels at home. A place where people can come for a cozy experience throughout the week,” says owner and initiator Benjamin van Roekel (29), who, despite his relatively young age, has been active as a hospitality entrepreneur for eight years and has successfully run restaurants abroad. Since 2020, he has been active in Amsterdam, and together with his new General Manager Sage Sampson (Spaghetteria), he ensures the ultimate guest experience at La Nostra Gigi. “A place where attention for the guest is central and where everything we serve has added value, whether it’s a well-tapped Moretti beer, delicious Italian coffee, or an extensive shared dining experience. Here, everyone leaves satisfied and with a smile on their face.”
Italian shared dining & festive cocktails
From oysters, pizzettas, bruschettas, and calamari fritti to antipasti, the restaurant presents surprising dishes. The desserts are served with a beautiful show, and some dishes, like the carbonara pecorino, are even served from a huge cheese wheel. The menu features many smaller, surprising dishes that you can share with your table companions, as well as beautiful meat or fish dishes and refreshing vegetarian bites. Chef Richard Way (former restaurant Envy and Le Garage) makes no concessions, so everything is worth trying and sharing.
In La Nostra Gigi’s cocktail bar, you can find extravagant cocktails at much less extravagant prices. The cocktail menu is curated by Stefan Sumual, recently named ‘Best Bartender 2022’ by Entree Magazine. The terrace on the cozy Marie Heinekenplein will be ‘the place to be’ during the upcoming summer months. While sinking into the delightful cushions, you can enjoy a beautiful cocktail and a cozy atmosphere.
Eclectic Italian 70s interior
Creative director and interior designer Will Erens (Too Many Agencies) is responsible for the look and feel of La Nostra Gigi. After working for restaurants in London, Barcelona, New York, and recently in Amsterdam for Lolo’s and Secret Garden, he now reinforces the Italian character of La Nostra Gigi with an ‘eclectic Italian Seventies Dolce Vita’ design. Erens chose a romantic and luxurious character, which is reflected in a surprisingly colorful and extravagant interior. Throughout the cocktail bar, lounge, and trattoria, you can find cozy seating areas, green pergolas, mirrors, shine, velvet, and color, lots of color.
Live music on Sunday
Every Sunday, you can enjoy live music at La Nostra Gigi, with different musicians each week who guarantee a relaxed afternoon, so you can prepare yourself for a new week. Throughout the year, La Nostra Gigi will continue to move with the seasons, so expect extravagant champagne feasts in the summer, spooky events in the fall, and winter galas during the New Year’s Eve.
