Kill it, Eat it | Kill your meal before you can eat it
This month Bompas & Parr and the Mondrian London Botique Hotel will host the ‘Kill it, Eat it’ event, an experiential dining event that educates people about the much-overlooked path that food takes to their plate. During the event you’ll have to kill your own crab before you can eat it.
About the Kill it, Eat it event
To kick of the Kill it,Eat it event, information will be given about the life of crabs, their role within the ocean food chain and about how long it takes to source and prepare this crustacean. Then, a tutorial will be given on how to humanely kill shellfish before you are given your own live animal to kill. You will be schooled in the biologically, most efficient and human method of killing crabs and how to deshell and cook it.
Harry Parr, partner of Bompas & Parr, said: “We trialled ‘Kill It, Eat It’ during our studio’s Christmas party and it sparked an idea about creating a thought-provoking series of events that de-mystified our carnivorous culture in the most visceral way. The resulting workshops explore the reality of our voracious appetite for all kinds of food, assess issues of sustainability and of course celebrate the food sources themselves, all the while asking the question, if you want to eat animals, shouldn’t you be prepared to kill them yourself?”
The event will take place at the Sea Containers restaurant at the Mondrian London Botique Hotel. Throughout the event, you will be pampered with a meal prepared by the Sea Container’s team and a cocktail with ingredients from the sea. At the end of the event, you will be given a takeaway guide that explains how to replicate the process of killing crabs at home as well as an recipe card of the consumed cocktail and meal.
Tickets are priced at £45 per ticket. The event will be held on the 23rd and 30th of April.
