Great examples of how to use the Olympic Games in your benefit
We have seen quite a few examples of restaurants, hotels and leisure centres using the Olympics in their benefit. The Olympic Experience on the beach of Scheveningen is a great example. As well as storytelling in advertisings! One of the best is probably the Olympic anthem of Samsung.
We checked the web to see what has been organized in the hospitality and leisure world with the Olympics in mind.
Did you spot other great examples or did you organise an inspiring Olympic event? Let us know, we like to complete our list!
1. Rio wellness weeks at Centre du Lac
We spotted a couple of great examples of how to use this theme in the wellness world at Centre Du Lac (The Netherlands). How about: Wax it like a Brazilian, Olympic O.P.I. nail polish in the colours of the rings and the sauna masters make the löyly’s (pouring water in a hot sauna) a true Olympic and Brazilian experience (Brazilian scents and music of Bossa Nova). They also treat their guest to a free drink after every 5th medal the Dutch athletes or teams are winning in Rio.
2. Rio on the Hudson
Pier 26 on the Hudson got a makeover with beaches, palm trees, live samba music, dance lessons, family activities, pickup volleyball, Capoeira performances, live graffiti artists, and authentic Brazilian food and drinks. City celebrates Team USA! A similar kind of event as our Dutch Olympic Experience.
3. Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen is throwing a mini carnival to celebrate the Olympic
During the opening of the Olympics Hoxton Square Bar threw a party with live music, courtesy of the South London Samba Band, free carnival masks, Brazilian cocktails and authentic Brazilian street food including ‘pastel de palmito’ – a rum-enriched fried pastry with fillings both savoury and sweet – and plenty of meat.
Might be an inspiration for a farewell Rio party!
4. Can’t make it to Rio? Then let CopaCabana bring Rio to you…
Restaurant chain Cabana has opened a pop-up location on the Iconic South Bank where they recreated Rio’s most famous beach, the CopaCabana, with a lot of sand! All with the Olympics in mind, a pop-up in a real CopaCabana tram!
5. Enjoying a culinary golden, silver or bronze menu at restaurant ‘t Amsterdammertje
According to their newsletter you can enjoy an Olympic bronze, silver or gold menu selection at restaurant ‘t Amsterdammertje! A 3-, 4- or 6-course menu. It doesn’t need to be something major, a quirk might work as well….
6. With a little help from a famous personality
Sometimes you just need to be a bit lucky. A tweet from a famous person might help. In this case, a tweet from our cyclist Bauke Mollema was seen by Metro News and we now know that many athletes and/or their escorts stand in line at the McDonalds in the Olympic village. Although the tweet of Bauke was not positive. McDonald’s has been an official sponsor of the Olympic Games since 1976. They are one of the few companies who are allowed to sell food in the Olympic village. The other main sponsor, Coca-Cola, is also present in the village.
7. Every times Australia wins, so do the Vapiano Fanaticos!
At the Australian pizzeria Vapiano guest do get a free pizza or pasta when Australia wins gold! You first have to register to receive a free voucher, and if there are multiple gold medals on the same day: bad luck, the action is only valid for 1 pizza every day! Under the motto: Join the Rio Gala-H!
Great way to build a list with email addresses!
8. Rio weeks for children at Avontura in Enschede
From the 5th till the 21st of August children can participate in the Rio Weeks at Avontura. The Olympics in a creative manner, the Avontura Games! Sounds good: mimicking the 110 meter hurdles; climbing a mountain; a relay race; a kind of archery etcetera. You can even earn medals!
9. The Hilton hotel in The Hague expects more roomservice as guests love to watch the games.
At the cocktail bar SPARK they serve Brazilian cocktails and you can order 24/7 Brazilian specialties. Think of a Brazilian snack platter, seafood Moqueca and Brazilian drinks. Cocktail bar SPARK has Caipirinha’s and Brazilian lemonade on their beverage menu.
10. Wine Decathlon with wines from 10 participating countries
Saturday the 6th of August guests could participate in a Wine Decatlon at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in Washington. Food/Wine pairing with dishes and wines from 10 different countries who are all participating in the Olympics.
