Initiative of Stichting Wijninstituut Nederland | Wijnfestival van de Lage Landen

That Belgian and Dutch wines are becoming increasingly more popular is no secret. Thanks to the growing quality and increasing expertise of winemakers, these wines have developed enormously. About time for their own annual festival, organized by Stichting Wijninstituut Nederland.

Tasting and more tasting at the Wijnfestival van de Lage Landen

White wines, red wines, rosés, sparkling wines … you will find them all at the Wijnfestival van de Lage Landen. So far, thirty Belgian and Dutch vineyard owners have already confirmed their participation (see below). In addition to the various wines, there will also be stands with tasty appetizers and other refreshments. Visitors will also have a chance to win a wine cooler, provided by Coolvaria. It promises to be a delicious, varied wine day.

Speed-masterclasses and prizes

During the day there are several speed-masterclasses from experts such as Vicky Corbeels. Learn in a short time the ins & outs about wines from cool climates, the new and classic grape varieties and the different ‘protected designation of origin’ in the Netherlands and Belgium. A unique opportunity to rapidly increase your wine knowledge and meet winemakers. Sign up for your favorite session when ordering your tickets or during the festival.

Reviewing wine of the Low Countries & KIESKURK public awards

The annual wine review of the Low Countries is also an important part of the festival. Some prize-winning wines can be tried and the prizes are awarded. As icing on the cake, they also have created the KIESKURK public awards. Visitors can vote for their favorite Dutch or Belgian wine. The presentation is in the hands of wine writer and registered wine expert Janna Rijpma.

Main Sponsor

The Wijnfestival van de Lage Landen is made possible, in part, by KIESKURK – Amorim Cork. This family business specializes in all parts of the cork product. Together with the Portuguese Amorim Cork, they produce TCA-free natural corks and have been focusing on the best CO2 balance of natural cork for decades. Especially for the festival, they designed the audience awards. “This festival is a great initiative with an emphasis on high quality and a beautiful natural product. Values that we value highly. We look forward to a multi-year cooperation,” says Rob Kies of KIESKURK – Amorim Cork.

About the organization

The Wijnfestival van de Lage Landen is an initiative of Stichting Wijninstituut Nederland (WIN). For twenty years WIN has been organizing the Wine Census of the Low Countries, where wines are judged at the Weinbauamt in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. Last year, a record number of 35 wines were awarded gold medals. A total of 250 Belgian and Dutch wines are submitted for judging each year. The WIN also organizes the Vineyard Open Days in the Netherlands. With this year’s main weekend being the 14th and 15th of September. More details will follow at nederlandsewijninfo.nl.

WIN has recruited Janna Rijpma (known for the successful wine festival Night of Wine) and Manon de Boer (spokesperson for the VNWP) as reinforcements. Together with Dik Beker, Bob Janssen, Gerben Kuijpers and Simon Crone, they are the organizers. The festival also has several early ambassadors: Winelife Magazine, trade magazine Wine & Vineyard and wine supplier Nederlandse Streekwijnen.
