Amsterdam Taco Festival | A Mexican mercato in ‘Het Sieraad’
With its large glass roof and central location, ‘Het Sieraad’s Atrium’ is the perfect location to be transformed into a Mexican mercato. While remaining warm and dry inside the atrium, the glass roof gives you the feeling of being outside.
Visit the various food stands, marvel at all the items that are for sale and get acquainted with the scent and flavours of Mexico. During the festival, several (Mexican) entrepreneurs will be ready to introduce you to ‘their’ Mexico. Take Pedro Mouneau for example, years ago he founded the well-known Los Pilones with his brother and now he runs the successful Piloncito. At the Amsterdam Taco Festival you can eat his tacos with different stews or flautas de pollo. Or what about the Mexican Gabriel from the food truck Ay Caray!, he likes to let you taste his version of the alambres de pollo and fajitas de pollo. Enjoy the lamb taco or holy pastor from Local Dealer, sink your teeth into chipotle braised beef tacos from Taqueria Lima or be surprised by the delicacies of Duck Truck, Corazón Contento, Caliente Latin Food, Caramba and Chiapas Taco Cartel. Don’t forget to stop by the Sweet Heat booth, these boys have a criminally delicious hot honey that tastes amazing with tacos.
Fresh tortillas | Watch how they are made and take them home
What’s the difference between a tortilla and a taco? What toppings go into a real Mexican tortilla and how are they made? Karla from Mexico City has been running tortillería Taiyari in Uithoorn for years and specially for the Amsterdam Taco Festival she brings her gigantic Mexican tortilla machine to show visitors how to make real corn tortillas. Of course you get to taste the tortillas and take them home.
Amsterdam Tequila
All those tacos will make you thirsty, Iris and Ambre of Amsterdam’s first Tequila brand LALA Tequila will serve tequila based (cocktails). The Amsterdam Taco Festival will take place on Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st of November from 11 a.m. in the building ‘Het Sieraad’ on Postjesweg 1 in Amsterdam West.
