Examples of how to deal with a European Championship without the Dutch team attending

15-6-2016

You might have noticed that the Dutch aren’t present at the European Championship! We all lament that and miss that orange Dutch feeling! But how do restaurant and bar owners deal with the loss of enthusiasm for the championship? We spotted a couple of creative examples!

1. Korenmarkt Arnhem

If you visit the Korenmarkt in Arnhem during the European Championship, you will end up in small Europe. A lot of the pubs located at the Korenmarkt have chosen to support another country. Spain, England, Germany, Belgium and France are all supported and represented at the Korenmarkt.

2. Westergasterras Amsterdam

It’s been extremely busy at Westergasterras in Amsterdam during the first game last Monday. Around 500 Dutch and Belgians fans came to see the game of the Red Devils. The upcoming games of Belgium will be broadcasted on big screens as well at the restaurant.

3. La Cité du Vin

Inspiration from abroad: in the recently opened La Cité du Vin in Bordeaux they organise tastings with wine from the countries playing against each other. Games like Wales – Slovakia and Austria – Hungary will be shown on big screens and will have wine tastings before the game starts.

4. Café de Pepel

Café de Pepel in Maastricht has decided to move the border markers. As a result the pub is located in Belgium instead of the Netherlands. After the European Championship the border markers will be moved back to the original location. Although the pub becomes Belgian for a while, the Dutch people are still very welcome.

5. Belgian specialbeer

More and more pubs in the Netherlands are selling a wide range of Belgian crafted beers. At the pub Road House in Hengelo all Belgian crafted beers will be sold for only € 2,50 during the games of Belgium.

6. Cocktails

During the World Championship of 2014 we wrote about the Caipirinha cocktails from Brazil, the European Championship might be a good reason to start make creative cocktails with the colours of the countries that participate! What do you think of the Red Devil Caipirinha and a green Mojito during the game Belgium – Ireland next weekend.
