This festive December month, hotel Pulitzer Amsterdam – located in 25 connected 17th and 18th century canal houses – has teamed up with renowned Danish fashion designer Claes Iversen to design a spectacular couture Christmas tree in their Winter Garden 2021. We have written about the idea behind the collaboration and now it turned out to be one of the largest outdoor Christmas trees in Amsterdam.
We think the design turned out really beautiful! We can completely imagine ourselves enjoying a warm drink in this Winter Garden at the Pulitzer Amsterdam, with dry weather and a thick coat or blanket of course. And if you take a walk through Amsterdam and enjoy the Amsterdam Light Festival, it is of course a nice stop for a hot drink and to warm up under the covers and the heaters in this Winter Garden.

All details about the Pulitzer Amsterdam X Claes Iversen couture Christmas tree
The impressive tree is more than 10 meters high and for its decoration it uses unique materials such as acrylic in combination with its distinctive modern design. The result is a bold, yet elegant and festive Christmas tree. Claes Iversen’s inspiration for the tree’s design came from his earlier designed couture pieces, using elements from previous dresses to create the brightly coloured bows and large rings that completely cover the tree.
Both the historic hotel and the talented designer are known for combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design in interior and design, making the collaboration between Pulitzer Amsterdam and Iversen a natural match. Christmas is a favorite of Iversen’s and the designer was delighted to be asked to take on this special challenge.
Iversen: “For me, a tree should always contain something magical – it should bring out the child in you. It’s a lot like couture: something that moves us and feels like a living dream. There are no limits to decorating a tree, everything is allowed and everything is possible.”
In creating this spectacular Christmas tree, Iversen found the biggest challenge in creating ornaments suitable for outdoor use and working with the enormous size of the tree. He says: “The colour I chose is one that I enjoy using in many of my collections. Fortunately, Pulitzer was immediately enthusiastic about my choice. I hope that many people will visit Pulitzer Amsterdam to see the tree.”

Pulitzer’s Winter Garden 2021
The iconic Pulitzer Amsterdam is a five-star hotel with 225 rooms, a relaxing courtyard garden, and an authentic restaurant and bar that embraces the local flavours. More than 50 rooms of the hotel have unique views of the Pulitzer Christmas tree designed by Iversen. The tree is nestled in the heart of the Pulitzer’s Winter Garden, where guests and visitors alike can enjoy festive snacks and hot drinks all day long under heaters and blankets, while admiring the view of the Christmas tree.
