The arty Christmas tree at the Claridge’s hotel by Sir Paul Smith
Claridge’s, London’s legendary Mayfair hotel, has unveiled the annual Claridge’s Christmas Tree 2024, this year created by long-time friend of the hotel, Sir Paul Smith. The arty Christmas tree by Sir Paul Smith brings together two illustrious British names to reveal a traditional 20ft arty Christmas tree sitting in a Signature Striped barrel and decorated with Paul Smith colourful baubles, ribbon and over 100 bespoke birdhouses.
Sir Paul Smith has collaborated with two friends of the house on the decorations, British artist Nik Ramage, who has made a series of mechanical birdhouses, all with a playful Paul Smith twist, with roofs decorated in playing cards, postage stamps and dice. In Paul’s office, a miniature cable cart hovers overhead and Ramage took inspiration from this and engineered a flying bird to frame Claridge’s reception. Design studio Studiomama, created a series of their whimsical ‘Off Cut Creatures’ to sit around the base of the tree.
Adding to the festive design, Paul Smith’s holiday Merrymaker fragrance will be the scent of the lobby, and a chorus of birdsong is played from the tree throughout the day to welcome guests into the lobby of the hotel. And Sir Paul has revealed ‘Paul’s Pick n Mix’ trolley, which will be available for guests to enjoy. With a selection of Sir Paul’s confectionary favourites, the trolley will be wheeled into the lobby daily to surprise and delight hotel visitors.
They even created a party for the lighting of the tree, with delicious canapés from Claridge’s kitchens, Sir Paul’s ‘Festive Negroni’ cocktail, Laurent Perrier Champagne and live music from The London Oratory Schola Cantorum choir for an annual festive celebration like no other in the hotel’s Art Deco lobby. Why don’t you put a trolley of Christmassy delicacies in the lobby? Or as we point out almost every year, have a local designer or celebrity decorate your Christmas tree?

The arty Christmas tree of The Connaught 2024 by artist Conrad Shawcross RA
The legendary Connaught Christmas Tree 2024 has been unveiled outside The Connaught, and this year it has been designed by influential British artist Conrad Shawcross RA. The unveiling of this arty Christmas tree marks the start of the festive season on Mount Street in the heart of Mayfair.
The magnificent Nordmann Fir tree, sourced from Denmark, stands nine metres tall on Carlos Place and is bedecked with 90 eye-catching, bespoke lanterns, each one made from aluminium and hand painted with a silver coating. At the top of the tree is a bright, shining star which illuminates the streets of Mayfair, representing a symbol of hope this Christmas. Shawcross is known for incorporating mathematical ideas and geometrical patterns of interference within his designs, which are also echoed across this year’s tree design.
The arty Christmas tree of the Connaught by Conrad Shawcross RA will shine bright and illuminate Carlos Place until the first week of January 2025. More details of the Festive Season at the Connaught can be found in the link in the title. They also have a ‘Wreath Making Workshop’, including canapés, sweet treats and champagne.
Rumour around the brand – fun idea a wreath making workshop! Fun to do in collaboration with a local florist! It’s also a wonderful gesture to the community if you let everyone outside enjoy your decorations too.
