Greentraveller produced in association with VisitEngland a guide to Green London. A handy pocket-sized map that features eco-friendly restaurants, hotels, cafes and attractions in the capital. Copies of the leaflet are available free of charge at eight Tourist Information Centres in and around London and the leaflet is also downloadable as a pdf.

The Norwegian company Figgjo has developed a new range of plates specifically made for use in canteens and restaurants. Now, these plate are usually pretty dull and uninspired. Figgjo has played around with the colour and shape, but without prejudice to the stacking capability or durability requirements.

The Ark Hotel is a concept, designed to be protected from extreme weather and is self-reliant. The arch-shaped building has a structure that enables to float and the wind turbines are used to create energy. This innovation is not a prevention against global warming, but is rather dealing with a new reality.

 

Pepsi unveils 100% plant-based bottle

PepsiCo – the company behind Pepsi and Tropicana – has unveiled what it claims is the world’s first 100 % plant-based bottle. The pilot production of the new bottle is set to start in 2012, and upon successful completion Pepsi intends to move directly into full-scale production.

Schools constructed from plastic bottles

Discarded plastic bottles can be turned into almost anything, even schools! Lately there have been numerous schools build out of plastic bottles. The bottles are filled, stacked between chicken wire and covered with cement. Bottle schools are not just a clever way to turn waste into something useful, they are also a reminder of all the waste that is being generated in the first place.

Fairtrade seafood

Tiger and king prawns are to become the first Fairtrade seafoods. The Fairtrade Foundation is working to create certification standards for small-scale prawn farms in Asia by the end of November, marking the first time it has ventured into the fishing industry.

 

Vegetarian restaurant application

With the new Vegman iPhone app you can search for vegetarian restaurants. Both the app as the community website are still under construction. At the moment there are over 1.100 restaurants in the database, 50 of those are in the Netherlands.

 

First biological fastfood restaurant in the Netherlands

On Saturday 12 March, the first hundred percent biological fastfood restaurant ‘eat2Be’  in Holland  has openend its doors. Eat2Be is a new concept with a menu that only offers biological products. It’s tasty, fast and responsible food in a modern and clean environment. Having a meal at eat2Be is good for yourself, good for the animals and good for the global environment.

 

Eco Can

As we all know, plastic bottles and cans are incredibly unfriendly to the environment. At least you can now get your fix with the Eco Can. Eco Can is made of a biodegradable material called PLA and is totally reusable. They are double-wall insulated to keep cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot. The Eco Can is also microwave- and dishwasher-friendly.
